View Full Version : Locating an X18XE1
Right, fair few of these about but I've yet to find one that comes complete, as in Engine, ECU, Loom, Transponder, Chip/Key etc etc. Have looked now at the possibility of just buying a donor vehicle, taking what I need and scrapping the rest.
I know it came in the 99 and early 00 Astra's and also some Vectra's but not sure which ones. The problem is, most people selling them haven't a clue and seeing as there isn't much difference between this and the Z18XE engine I can see me easily buying the wrong one over the net. Can it only be found out via the VIN number and if I had that, where would I get the info from other than Vauxhall?
Many thanks
Nad
And you could just ask the seller if there is a throttle cable attached to the throttle body?

If its a lady owner I doubt they would want to pull the cover off. Out of interest, does the engine cover just pull off?
Secondly, did they all run distributors, or did they change after a certain time? I only ask as running the reg's through ECP, some gives the options for them, some dont.
Thanks
2 Torx screws to remove the cover.
None are distributor fed they all run top down coilpacks.
All Vectra B's are XE1
Two of the 98 ones I've seen are running XE's not XE1's?

Correct, the earlier vectras were z18xe,only the the later ones were x18xe1 so they are not all the same.

Its facelift Vectra B 1.8's (1999 onwards) that have the X18xe1, small block engine:

Models earlier than that are big block (x18xe), so any '97 and '98 pre facelift 1.8 wont do.
1.8 Sri models (1999 onwards again) run the z18xe small block. Same engine essentially as the x18xe1 with a few subtle differences.
These engine codes are stamped on the block, by the gearbox. So any scrapyard will be able to tell them apart. I'm sure they'll have had this sort of enquiry before.

Nope
First 1.8s were X18XE (big block), then X18XE1 (facelift), then Z18XE

You were talking about X18XE1's and Z18XE's so I obviously wrongly assumed you would understand I was was basically saying that Vectra B's (with the small block engines.....) are XE1's....

Well I've seen a few spare and repairs Astras with body panel damage etc going for less than £200 so trying to grab one of those fairly locally.

Many thanks for clearing that up.

No thats fair enough, I wrongly assumed you meant all 1.8 Vectra's had that engine.
