My nova saloon has the c16xe corsa gsi engine in, since i have had it my temperature gauge hadnt worked, i have just tested my thermostat and that doesnt seem to do anything when put in a kettle, there are two probes in the the housing one with a blue plug on at the top ( whats this does anyone know? And seens to be another probe slighty lower that looks the same but has nothing connected.

would my dodgy thermostat have anything to do with the gauge not working? Also i have never seen ir heard my cooling fan come on?

Any advice for this novice :) thanks in advanced

Just check that the blue wire for the temp sensor has been wired in or changed the clocks

It the original dash i believe there is a blue cable and a red/ green cable connected in the top blue plug, is this the plug that will supply the temp gauge? There is also a thicker blue cable thats not connected to anything?? Its doing my head in! Hs thanks for replying

its the sensor to the left of the 2-prong one.

single wire.

2 pin sensor is the CTS for the ECU

see the blue wire below the ones to the blue plug?? that should plug into the funny looking thing just down and to the left of the blue socket. just use an open female spade terminal.

crimp a spade onto the single blue wire and slide it onto the sensor.

test it by shorting down to earth. gauge should go top scale.

Dont forget the blue wire is part of the c16 loom. A nova temp wire is part of the vehicle loom. You may have to join the engine loom behindnclocks

i don't fancy taking the dash out!! Will it be s case of popping the clocks out and attaching my blue cable to the back of the gauge?

also while your all on a roll, I've drained all my coolant out, when i come to fill it up how can make sure i get rid of any airlocks? I have no heaters to turn on like it says in haynes manual, can i just keep the cap off the expansion tank and run engine for a while squeeze the pipes maybe?? Sorry if it been covered before

Yes the wire attaches to the clocks and squeeze the pipes with the cap off and feel for cold pipes once it's upto temperature and the thermostat has opened, if all pipes are warm then there no air in the system.

Filled her up with coolant earlier all seemed to be going well all pipes seemed to get hot, coolant level dipped so i topped it up a little, temp gauge got to normal and then all coolant decide to leave the car via the expansion tank! Haha what did i do wrong??

When youre running up the car after re-filling the coolant, you need to get it warmed up, leave the cap off and set the blowers on full, (heaters set to hot obviously) on the dash front vents is best, then either get a mate to do it while you watch or stand out of the car keeping an eye on things and rev the engine to about 3k rpm for a few mins.

Gets the waterpump spinning and pumps all the coolant round the engine and 'should' force out any air locks through the open expansion tank, then put the cap back on (your blowers should be toasty warm by this point, and your gauge should see about a quarter) then take it for a quick spin but not too far from home just in case, then re-check your level.

That should be all thats needed, i forgot about leaving the cap off when i first bled up my xe, and nearly split my header tank lol

Ok mate only trouble is i have no heaters to turn on!

Well in which case just do the same hold the revs at 3k for a couple of mins to force it to circulate, and keep the cap off whilst you do it!
