how to make a 1.4 16v fast

how would I make a 1.4 16v engine faster without spending a lot of money. im going to have the engine split so any suggestions :)

fit a 1.6 upper inlet manifold, people literally throw them away when they fit a powerbox, and the 1.6 one has bigger ports than the 1.4...
that's it really, cos everything else costs lots of money

junk all the EGR, cat light off blower, AC if fitted, clean the gunge off the TB.

enjoy the weight saving as everything else costs money. lots of things you can do for free, like head porting. But if you could do that you wouldnt be asking how to tune an engine.

dont bother de-catting, you wont see a difference unless its choked or melted.

See if you can up a cheap 4-2-1 manifold, it will help no end...these engines are massively restricted as standard

i've seen something about changing the exhaust cam for one off a c16xe, but i'm not sure if it makes much hp..

What isnt a lot of money?

Id agree with whats been said already, id also recomend a 4.18 final drive on a CR gearbox. However you will lose top end speed.

i would consider an induction kit 'a lot of money' because it does so little.

however, i wouldnt say a £500 ECU is a lot because it will give huge scope for performance gains per £
and at the end of the day, its still a £500 which you can sell on or use on the next project.
