Gearbox reliability

Took my 85 sr out for its maiden voyage and gearbox is really groaning :-( first thing I did was check the box oil level , I was preying it was a bit low as to make it groan from being a bit dry but no perfectly full . It's standard power and only done 60 k but just wanted any ones past experience and tips in this area

Try ATF in it. Might be a bearing if it has been sat for a while.

It's bin sat for 5 years and what was in the box was red so do they generally run on ATF I take it ?

Some old vauxhall boxes prefer ATF despite manufacture specs

Corrosion in the bearings I suspect if it has been sat 5 years.

I thought it would be something to do with it being sat , so guess ile flutter my eye lashes at the my old man and get him to sort it , I was surprised to find ATF in the box lol cheers for info guys . Guess ile be finding a bearing supplier once the old mans confirmed it . ****!

the early f10 boxes had a major problem with noisy bearings.. it was fixed during the '85 model year. yours may be an early one...

my 1st nova was an '84 model & it was noisy as hell. i only fixed it by fitting new bearings

you might be better off fitting an f13 box

Mine was the same, bearings failed at low miles, they were replaced and has been great ever since, 100k miles +

Mine is a pre 85 mechanically so ile do the bearing then cheers mowgli and royston
