As per title, best spark plugs to use .. Ngk or champion

Anything bar bosch super 4's

the bosch are useless for this engine, you'll be pushing it all winter lol
I have used ngks and champion but for me the champions are far better suited to the ohv with points and smaller spark, NGKs are fine for electronic ignition.
I also use champions rather than ngks in minis and morris minors etc.

For good starting I always set the plug gap at 25 thou, I can't rememebr offhand what the book says.

So gap them at 25thou and should be good ..

At mo its got ngk plugs but struggles, could be down to no choke fitted (it was removed prior to me buying it) and also chokes up alot and plugs become fouled with carbon, possible over rich fuelling ? I kno no choke doesnt help

But again thanks for info, looks like im getting a universal choke and plugs :)

No choke wont make a difference,it will run rich with the choke closed actually.
I would say the car needs a good tune up

what carbs the old 1000 OHV running ? .. is it a small single choke weber ?

it will no doubt be setup over revving and over rich, to compensate for not having any choke.

as its summer, you might get away with setting it up for normal fuelling, and just holding the throttle down for 5 mins every time you start, until its warm enough to take care of it itself.

until you get a choke cable that is

Get a choke fitted, you live in the UK. It's a simple manual choke and works fine.
If your plugs ae sooted then I would suggest a complete tune up.
Ignition timing, mixture, idle speed etc. Make sure the vacuum advance is working too, it makes a difference on this engine.

Champions are typically toss.

Plugs are plugs.. You really wont notice the difference.

NKG make most of the "cheaper" plugs on the market, in the same factory they make their normal plugs.
