My nova redtop appears to be leaking gear oil from the gear selector housing I have removed and replaced the gasket, also used loctite 598 sealant. Left it over night and it still leaking under load. I have noticed there is small hole within the casting (it should be there) should that have a blank on it or something as not sure if it coming from there, don't really want to hang of the engine bay whilst in motion. LolWould post up pics but I'm stupid and after 16 years of browsing forums still can not do it. HahaAny help would be great.

You've probably overfilled it... That's why there's an overflow there...

Are the correct mounting bolts fitted? are they all tight?
Somebody had mixed up the bolts on mine and a couple were slightly too long. They had bottomed out and threaded the casing. Had to helicoil mine.
That Loctite sealant should work OK, we use it at work. Did you make sure the mounting faces were perfectly clean and free from traces of oil before you applied it?

Bolts the right one, Faces were cleaned before sealant was used. I've probably over filled the box then if thats an overflow. Not the one on the top of the casing it's next to where the gear selector rod goes in. Sorry to sound stupid. Just don't want the seizing on me.

Start a photobucket account, upload the picture to the account, then copy and paste the [IMG] option into the thread ;)

good point alex.. if the plug is in, do the following:
on flat level ground, look just behind where the lh driveshaft enters the box. there is a bolt that is actually the oil level check. undo it & leave it for a while with a tray under it in case there is a lot of extra oil in there, and when i mean a while, i mean several hours, as gear oil is quite thick when cold.

Hi guys ill have a look tomorrow and try and upload a pic to show you. I know on the very top of the selector casing has a cap on it, a black one. I removed that and the plug from the top to fill it up.

did you push the black cap all the way on, or to the 1st click? as this is also the breather vent

I have put a screw just to show where I think it's coming from. The screw will go all the way in. Should that have a blank on it??

that hole should have a small spring loaded plunger in it, to aid setting up the gear linkage. either fit another turret with the plunger, or bung the hole up with something (a blob of silicone would do)
the black cap on the breather should only be on part way, to allow it to breath properly. if its rammed on tight, it will be sealed, and it will be forcing oil out through some other orifice, it this case, the hole you have pictured

part no is 90523130

pull the little black cap up so it isn't all the way on, that's how its meant to be.
