Minds been took off the Nova when I was told I can go down the yard on my lunchbreak and play in the Liebherr, baring in mind i'm just a new apprentice in this place. Been waiting to have a shot of one of these since I was about 10

Anybody else into this kind of thing?

it is fun driving large yellow things.... rubber ducks are hard to learn, they have about 3 times the levers & pedals that a normal tracked one has.. but smashing things up is the best way to release any anger you might have stored up...

i was helping on our tree trunk splitter this morning... not that its a scary thing or anything... it is powered by a 16t jcb 360 excavator!!! and is a large ram to force trees towards a very sharp blade.. its good for the soul

Next up I'm trying to get a shot of is the bigger Liebherr 924 with orange peel grab. This runs the scrapyard part of the company.. what I normally do is drain all the scrap cars then I take them down to him and he crushes them up... :)

now the people who use them are absolute artists. the distance they can throw stuff is amazing.

my best scrapyard story.....we had finished building a new weighbridge in the local waste yard, and were working on some more concrete in the yard. some old geezer comes in to drop off his pride & joy car, as it had just failed its MOT. he asked me where to go, so i directed him to the office, he came back out & asked me what to do with his car. so i told him to start it & drive it into the heap as fast as he could.. he was about to burst into tears when i told him i was only joking & actually didn't work for the yard, and their staff would come & take it for disposal.. he was strolling towards the gate when the yard man climbed in it, revved the knackers off it & drove it into the heap as fast as he could......lol lol

Biggest thing ive had a go in was a 60t face shovel in Gourock when the moved 750,000 tonnes to build the amazon warehouse, in 1998 nobody knew who the fcuk amazon was!!

[ LMAO wish I'd seen that. i really couldn't believe it myself, i was bent double & crying with laughter.. the yard man was a right character, his boss was smashing up a car one day, stopped the machine to nip for a slash, came back yelling for the yard man, who had crawled under the car & was groaning really loudly. he boss thought he'd done it & ran off to call for an ambulance, at which point the yardman buggered off....lol lol

Ive often found that the bigger the machine the easier it is to use,

/\ damned right, a micro mini digger is pure evil to drive compared to a large machine

HAHAHA the yard man sounds like a right hero! It was my first time on a digger mate and I don't work with diggers etc I'm a drayman for a local micro brewery and drive a Mercedes Crafter.

We do have a fork lift at work which I moved once. That was **** but it was my first time on one too.

If they're pure evil to drive I must have been born to drive them as I thought it was easy.

nope, you were moving the levers about a bit & having fun... we have to drive them for 9-10 hrs a day when you are working a mini-digger hard, you have to be really careful not to tip one over.. they are about as stable as a unicycle

ps. i know you work at a brewery.... which is why i commented...

Mowgli here's one from the other day... We got a Transit pick-up in for scrap and I decided it'd do as a yard van for taking material around etc. Took it down to the scrap to empty the back manually, Mick who drives the machine said it's fine stay in the cab, and just put the grab head right through the back bed as hard as he could... very surprised he never snapped the chassis, still works fine. lol

Doh I've just re-read your post and got what you meant lol

It did feel quite unstable at some points but I put the whateveryacallit on the front down and it didn't tip over.

we had to go & pick up our 1.5t machine last week with a large forklift.. the hirer had managed to put it on its side, cos he used the dozer blade to level it up on a steep bank & then swung a bucketful of soil round a bit too quick.. luckily after 1/2 hr of letting it settle its fluids, it was fine...

Was playing in this today.. bit more scary as the grab swings about a fair bit and if you don't have 110% concentration it'll come in the cab beside you!
