View Full Version : Viewing a NOVA, what to look for?!
Allo chaps and chappesses!
Viewing a nova soon and its my first one..
I previously owned a classic mini; changed the engine twice and changed 3 head gaskets so I know my way round a car OK... But obviously a nova is a different kettle of fish
So far I have had a gander and it seems to be..
- rust on battery tray
- rust on front strut supports
- rust rear arches
And obviously the mechanical hoo-har.. any knocks or bangs!
Anything else?
Cheers!
(Shall i put up the link of the car for you all to see?!)

Rust and bodgery are the main nova problems, everything else is a simple fix
Main rust spots are: (in no particular order)
Front splash guards
Front Inner wing seams to turrets and chassis
Boot floor to rear panel
Rear chassis legs and tow hook
Rear arches
Door bottoms
Sills
Battery tray
If these are solid or fairly reasonable your onto a good car. As everything is simple engineering and items are simple to swap or replace. Some parts are starting to run thin on the ground though. So keep that in mind too.
Doors and panels are getting really dear now too
Sounds the same as a mini!
Here is the Nova.. thoughts?

Rear chassis legs and all around front inner wings, cills, inside boot on both sided and rear valance pretty much every part of a nova is prone to rust at some point, its the botch welding that's the biggest pain. I take a screwdriver and poke around especially if it's not mot,d
Looks OK
Too many doors tho

New underseal as well as everything above
Looks OK

Don't follow the crowd ;) Just check everywhere for rot, everything else is easy on a nova! :)
the whole body is prone to rust.
all the mechanical parts are prone to failure
the wiring isn't much better....
just be very careful
With minis there were so many bodges so i know exactly what to look for in terms of that
Appreciate the help chaps
The fact its a 5 door doesnt really put me off, it looks in good nick and hopefully is true to the pictures!
I'll report back tomorrow!
Snap on torch, magnet (for filler!) and screwdriver will be taken tomorrow haha :D

Agree, if the sills needed replacing, there a good chance other bits are rotten.
Looking at the pictures the underside view looks urm "old"!
Off to view it now.. I'll let you lot know
They really don't rot that badly, compared to loads of other cars.
I bought a 1975 Mini yesterday... lol

I wouldn't buy a 5dr is sort of spoils the shape. 3dr hatch/loon all the way
He would sell at £500, bearing in mind thats no tax as well :/
Story goes.. 70 year old bloke owned it and serviced it religiously every 5000 miles.. Serviced the lot! He had a haynes manual with everythnig written in it which is fair play!
5 door doesnt bother me too much but yes a 3 door is nicer! :) Drove very nice and evrything works as it should
I'll let the pics do the talking - only body work let the car down.. arches seem very clean but they have had welding!
Interior was mint and has a top of the range air sensor alarm

All it needed for last MOT was a handbrake cable and NO advisories.. tidy car!
Welder ready lol
Needs both rear pockets tickled with the metal glue gun.
Sound, aside from that. :)
Any views?
Thought you viewed it. :)
Hahaha ;)
I did but unsure as to what the experts reckoned!

Go for it
Ask for money off, if you just take three of it's doors. lol
A 5 door is good if you are using it as a taxi lol. The rear end/axle etc looks quite rusty . Also paint in the inner arches is probably hiding a multitude of sins but hey £500 is peanuts so if you are happy with it then buy it!
To be honest i might just stick around for the right motor...
I said the same to a mate, something holding me back!

3 door is worth more in the long run
