Gte cambelt

Hi I need to change the cam belt cover on my 1.6 8v nova gte as the old one is broken I have been told the one of the latter astra/zafria 1.6 8v which I have got but it has no timing marks like the older one now unsure what to do? Thanks dan

ok, has it got a seperate tensioner or not?? there are 2 different belt lengths for the 1600 engines. so you need to get the right one. the e16se non tensioner type uses the water pump to adjust the belt. change the water pump if you have this version, as you will most likely wreck its seal if you adjust it anyway.

the head might be ok, but its a 50:50 thing with the e16se as to if you get valve damage or not..

sorry.. my bad. i saw cambelt and broken & thought the worst...

i don't think you can get the round top cover any more, so if you can only get the square type, you'll have to do something clever like marking the belts & pulleys with paint so you can re time them after fitting the backplate, then paint marks on the backplate before putting the cover on.
