After my first trackday in my Nova a few weeks ago the car ran great! but once the fuel got between 1/2 and 3/4 of a tank when I was taking a right hand corner hard it coughed and spluttered. I then filled it up and it was fine again so ive come to the conclusion its fuel starvation?

The engine is a 1.6 16v on tbs and all i know is it has an uprated fuel pump.

Just want to know the easiest/cheapest method to sort the problem out?
Did a search but i couldnt find a spesfic answer! Im led to believe I may need a GTE fuel tank or plum in a system with swirl pot etc.
Any help/a guide would be great! ;)

Thanks

What tank does it have in it now? I was always lead to believe that a fuel injected car needs a tank with a swirl pot inside to stop the problem you described. The fuel sloshes down to one side of the tank (on cornering for example) and so the fuel pump cant maintain a constant supply.
Nova's that came with a fuel tank to suit were GTEs/GSIs/SRIs. Apparently you can also use a tank from a SPI engined nova, such as late mk2s with the 1.2 and 1.4spi. They have a fuel pump mounted on top of the tank which may need upgrading to a mk3 astra item.

Thanks for the great advise! I will try and source a tank from one of the above! Guessing there quite rare?!

As far as I know it has the orginal 1L fuel tank! I didnt carry out the engine convertion so not totally sure! its the first time ive used the car in anger so that must be the reason, as normal road driving its fine!

Or fit an external swirl pot,as the above mentioned tanks are hard to find these days

I had the same issue on long righ-handers. It was worse with slicks - it would do it at 3/4 of a tank!!

I had to swap to an external swirl pot system and that sorted it!

piece of p1ss:

you will need another pump, some wiring, hoses and jubilee clips

...or just find a injection tank.

I have an injection tank... They are ok on road cars. Not on track cars with any sort of suspension!
