http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/cc68/GTE-BABE_2007/20130808_202821.jpgi I have just taken then head of my gte to do head gasket and the head doesnt like right would any one know if any problems from picture below thanks dan
there doesn't look to be anything up with it, just clean it up
use a decent scraper to get the worst off, then use wire wool & some sort of spirit to get the rest off..
or you could waste money on a skim
Skim it to irritate Mowgli and do the job right :)
it won't irritate me, its not my money being spent...
If the car was not overheating, and the gasket failure was either off a cylinder, or pressurising the cooling system, then check its true with a steel rule. If its all good then give it a good scrub and fire it back on. Jobs a goodun. On the other hand you could pull the valves out and re-grind them into the seats, fit new stem seals, and get it skimmed. Your call. All depends on how the car was behaving prior to failure really.

It doesn't have enough valves and two studs look sheared.

I would skim as a matter of course. As a prime example I have just changed the cylinder head on my Z20LET (due to stem seal failure), prior to me rebuilding the replacement head I had my machinist go over it with a clock to see if it needed skimming (it was removed from a working Z20LET engine with no issues). It turned out a light skim was required even though nothing was wrong when it was removed - so no one can tell me 'its a waste of money'

so a skim wasn't required at all, just a clean up, as usual..
its funny that people send a head to a man with a head skimming facility to see if it needs skimming.... which is pretty much the same concept as asking a barman if he thinks you need a drink.
it also happens that garages love to charge for skims & the people have bought into it.
we wouldn't dream of skimming a large diesel head, unless it has had damage caused, and yes, they are alloy 4 valve jobs, and then we have to check what size gaskets are available to ensure the compression is kept correct.
i'll now sit back & wait for people to abuse me yet again....

pardon? i didnt say you were wrong. im simply saying it would be a fair challenge. Your statement was flawed:
i would skim as a matter of course
which is foolish and completely different to skimming if it genuinely needs it.
