I am looking at the coilovers to run on my XE Nova I will be building.

Up front I have brand new LEDA's with 2.5" coil springs which means I have no issues as I have buckets of 2.5" spare springs of different weights so I will chop and change them till I am happy.

The questions I have are in regards to the rears, I've been looking at GAZ rear coilovers and I know they have to run narrow springs (1.9"???) so getting the spring rates correct when ordering is important.

GAZ supply 160lb springs on the rear normally, how do people find them for ride comfort?

I'd say 160 is way way to soft. I run 300lbs in mine, i think the ride good, i know it was short, but how did you find it when i took you out? And yeah you want 1.9id springs.

This is the rear ben, id expect 300lb up front.
I cant remember how yours was for comfort, was too long ago!

I run 300lbs front and rear. I wouldn't run anything less now. Have told other people too as well.

I'll take you out again soon.

300lb rear? Even the carlton doesn't run that hard and that's got a 50/50 weight distribution!

Yep a 300lb rear and sod all damping will give a firm but compliment ride.

Also worth noting those ledas will most likely be gaz's as lee or Dave has worked there for years lol

Yeah and really? Harder spring, softness set with the knob on the coilover...

Yep.

I've ran 160s on rear of my loon daily for a while and they were spot on

I currently run 300 on my wide arch nova and I wouldn't recommend them for a daily.

If you're buying brand new ask for extra short bodies and I think 200 will be best of both worlds

Gaz sell 160s as stock for the rear cos thats what the rally boys like for gravel, for tarmac you want stiffer rear than front springs ime, comparing a RWD carlton isnt really relevant, i would say 300 minimum, more like 450+ for a track car, harsh ride is usually caused by crap dampers with extra strong 'bump' damping to make them feel 'sporty'
