Fitting gauges

Ok this may sound silly to some people however I have never fitted gauges before, I am laser cutting a faceplate for the gauges I was just wondering if somebody could let me know is the size of the gauge including the plastic trim or is that the size that the hole has to be?

Most gauges are 52mm/2"

Which ones are you fitting and to what engine?

Yes 52mm and 60mm are standard gauge sizes, I'm sure my recent Stack leaflet said it wants something like a 54mm hole.
