Hi all, I joined png a couple of years ago when I had a 1989 nova merit I was going to red top. However I found this on piston heads with a red top already installed and the burnt orange/brown interior along with the fact it's such an early mk1 I had to buy it. When I first bought it the head had cracked and the paint was poor but I had a spare xe with a good head so swapped it over and used it like this for a couple of months. I then DIY the sprayed it with not great results ready for Pvs 2011, I made it to the show after a smokey start due to an over tightened 8v sump gasket. Apart from my tent catching fire and the rain a good weekend was had by all. The car was used until late 2011 when I decided to take it off the road for the winter and rebuild it in time for Pvs this year when it would be 30, well the fact I'm now starting a project thread shows how it went lol. I lost interest to put the time in and bought a e36 325 welded the doff and went drifting instead :-) . Over the last couple of months though I've got the engine out and cleaned the bay, I have also got the bottom arms off and plated them. I have the n/s rear arch cut out and new panel ready to weld back in once I have a sill and have repaired the inner sill too. Pics to follow once I figure out how to post them again lol.

Another tidy looking mk1, get that oil cooler hid and you will have a super sleeper like mine, ive lowered it on sr steels fitted with a x16xe under the bonnet with a standardish looking exhaust but it has been suprsing kids in corsa c's hehe

Yeah I hid it although I liked the retro kinda look. Yeah she's fairly straight and with a bit of work a few new panels and a respiratory she will be mint. The shell has only done 74k. Apart from the wheels and a 3inch outwardly rolled play mini back box you would never know what's under the bonnet and it certainly surprised a few people lol. I love the interior and even have the original mw/lw radio in brown fitted with the CD player re routed into the glovey lol.

I have been thinking of changing the colour of mine for something else from the early 80's vauxhall range but that will go with the interior if anyone has any suggestions? I'm selling my xe to buy a B204 :d . I was gonna bike carb the xe but I want turbo power and I ain't paying for a let so its out with the grinder and welder to shoehorn the b204 in.

Cheers mate, I'm keeping the wheels and colour of them and spraying the engine bay to match but I'm unsure of metallic silver. Unfortunately the car doesn't look anything like it did there anymore but it's all to keep it alive for another 30 years..... Maybe lol.

I used 3mm plate for the bottom arms and the bay I have just cleaned to inspect welds and so it's ready for my engine conversion.
