Im starting to use my saloon as a bit of a development car to see what handling upgrades work and such. This is partly inspired by the track day that Ive got that lets me take my own car on track.
Anyways, Ive always wanted to lower the tie bars on the front to aid with handling and hopefully reduce wheelspin. I remember this being a mod from back in the day and I dont hear of it being done so much now. So, who has done it and how?
Are the brackets avaliable off the shelf? Do you mod the OE brackets? Or am I looking to send the car off to the welders to get the shell modded?
Since I cant weld, Im hoping for an off the shelf mod. Its either that or I take a pair of OE brackets down to a fabricators and get them to make some up.

Also, the GSI comes with larger diameter tie bars but my base model saloon doesnt. Is it worth me tracking some larger ones down? My saloon is running a x16xe and is a weekend car.

I did it to clean the F28 gearbox, dropped them 30mm. I used std mounts with the top hole extended with some box tube in the gap as a spacer. The a spacer blocks on the rear (no help to you there)

It's deffo worth getting the larger tie bars yes, and after having made the change, fit polly bushes in there too.

Also helps with braking.... Prevents diving. You can buy rose jointed ones on eBay!

Will-Rose jointed tie bar brackets or tie bars?

Ben-So the top hole of the OE bracket you extended up? Then the gap between the bottom of the crossmemeber and the bracket you filled with some box section steel, with longer bols going all the way through?

^that's what I have done too, think I used 25mm box. mine was also for the f28 conversion so the rear of the tie bar is lowered aswell

The rj brackets are lower than standard, they are about £170

I have a set of the original Courtenay ones that I'd be willing to sell. Look like the standard ones (so lot neater than cutting and extending) but are 40mm lower with spacers included. They have been powdercoated black.

Will get some pictures up later if interested.

Lee, you have PM

Will- Im not looking to spend that much on my saloon. But if the mod works well then I'd be more inclined to spend that on my next project.
