before you laugh at me, and tell me im a plonker, and order me to buy new stuff, im skint and cant afford nowt.
the car needs an oil change, and im trying to make use of what ive got.

I have some un-opened oil that's a little on the old side.
does age matter with oil ? (If they have use by dates ?)
I don't think its more than 5 or 6 years old.

and the bottle got left in the sun for a week.
would the sun do any damage to the quality of it (plastic in it ?)

as much of a cowboy as you can turn into when your skint, I don't wanna kill my engine.

any cowboys done this, with no harm done ? lol :thumb:

I think it will be fine as long as it has been kept sealed. I dont think the sun will have much effect on it, it wont get it hotter than the engine will.
It has got to be better than leaving the old oil in the engine

I was just concerned a little about the heated plastic leaching into the oil possibly. crank bearings might not appreciate it.
it will prob be fine tho wont it, ill change it again a few months down the line when ive got a few bob spare.

I don't think there is anything wrong with using it at all - I would in your position without question, as Rich says - got to be better than old oil.
