Today I broke down again lol, least I made it knockhill this time, I ran out of petrol but gauge was showing 1/4 tank put in about 4.5lt and then went to garage and put in a further 17litres and the tank was full to the brim, but the gauge is only showing between 3/4 and full

Does a nova tank only hold 21litres and my gauge is broken? Or is my car not using the bottom 1/4 of tank?

Anyone had this issue before?

Cheers

I got 30 odd liters £50 in mine the other day but it was running on fumes

Must not be using the bottom part of the tank then cause I ran out and I brimmed it and was only 21litres weird every time I take the fecking thing out it lets me down

Didn't realise Knockhill was on today.

Your tank should hold 42 litres so something is wrong.

Yeah mate was superb, that red nova with the wide arches popped a hole in its block

Sure is mate I'm unsure what the story is with it

Was it a normal trackday? Didn't see it advertised, I think the Red one is (or was) a LET?

I wold recommend removing the sender, draining the tank (is it carb?) and then putting a wee drop in until it starts to come out of the sender bit, then put it back in, then fill up.

Are you sure that it is filling up? If the breathers are wrong (had this on my 1400) then the tank refuses to accept fuel. There are a few breathers but the culprit on mine was the one that runs behind the filler, it had broken internally and blocked, therefore not allowing air out as I put fuel in, the blockage made the fuel station pump think the tank was full.

You got a pic of your Nova?

G17 OVA is the usuall red wide arch one up there, it ran a XE with 250ish bhp, sad it's went bang :(

Sounds like your pick up pipe isn't reaching the fuel?
If its a standard GSI tank the sender and pickup is the same thing and should look like this,

I have seen the car, lovely car but an xe giving 280bhp will go bang at some point I suppose.....a little bit too much stress on the block? I think Con rods (or something that sounds like that) goes on them if pushed too far. Is this the new championship thing they are starting? They asked me but it is expensive with all the stuff you need to get, I'm just doing it for fun.

That's a great looking GSi, looks clean and original.

Sadly it's hard to find those pick up pipes second hand and very very rare to find a new one :(

Shame Stunning car like but 280bhp is mega for a xe so no wonder,

Cheers Marc I never get the chance to use it really :(
I drained my tank today to investigate I had a breather problem with the tank causing it to splutter a few weeks ago

Turns out my tank is sucked in with the pressure

I'm not sure if my motor factors will do one, I can ask for you? Where about in NE Scotland are you?

That is serious suction, pulling the whole tank, good job you noticed it!

Follow Mowgli's advice first, if you can't get it reshaped give me a shout and I'll see if they can get a new one.

Cheers but How would I pressurise the tank?

marc69

air? seal everything and then pump it with air? It looks rot free so seems a shame to bin it, (or give it to me lol)

Chay84

Yeah tanks solid but it will need to be some pressure of air to pop the tank back out like

mowgli

a 3 bar pump pulled it in....so 3 bar, or less than 45psi will blow it out

block up all the holes properly, then connect a tyre valve or similar to a small metal pipe & pump it up with an airline....

if you are still in doubt, ask a radiator repair place if they can help

Ok mate cheers for that :)
