have now come up with another issue? than i cannot see being right at all...
have now sort of fixed the exhaust up to where it looks about right and it will do for now although have gained a inch or so gap between the bumper and rear panel...

As pics show it almost looks as if i need a boot with no number plate recess in it to cover the gap/hole.

The bumper i am using came with the bumper bar attatched so i can only guess it is correct and they dont differ between std and gte?

Is there a cover that i am missing? or is it how its supposed to be?

finally a pic of how it finished last night.. after owning the car for over 12 months and its finally sat on my drive and not a unit/garage where i could only work on it during business hours which i work.. so should be able to get a fair bit more done to it :d

hasn't had a bump up the bum in the past has it ?

might be worth double checking the bar attachment and the mounting brackets, bolts, nuts, everything

Nope not that can see rear panel and floor are all straight. The original rear bumper fitted fine with no gap but have since then chucked it so cant check it up again ''doh!!''. Took it off three times too to check the fixing's too...there seems to only be 2 bolts for the bracket's. The bar seems to be held by plastic clips that open out when the bar is pushed in?? then one bolt either side, into the rear panel..
genuilly am confused and not sure where or how i am going wrong as never fitted a mk1 gte bumper although i thought would be same as any other nova bumper...

After having a quick scan through google images others seem to be the same :s

It's meant to be like that

Only the mk2 bumpers went right up to back panel

I thought it looked familiar, but when you examine the pictures, it makes you question if its normal lol

no worries then saber, carry on. cars looking good :thumb:

Shame as imo would have looked alot better being close up.. maybe this is why the mk2 had them??

Thanks for confirming this Edd....

Maybe if/when its finished one day Jimbob! atm i keep toying with the idea of selling it but ive got to finish it 1st everything mechanical is brand new!

It holds the number plate when it falls off lol

As above, the gaps are much larger on the mk1's, the early rear bumpers have even bigger gaps on them aswell lol

Get hold of another rear bumper, cut a section off and then plastic weld a section on and fill and respray ;)

yeh it almost looks as if vauxhall thought ''f*** it that'll do'' when designing the rear! all the number plate wired can be seen and i can nearly fit my hand down the gap...

Southie i may have to go down that route... although someone else will be doing it as i have never tried nor never will try plastic welding :D

thanks again
