Selling them for £425, which i thought was a great profit...... until i found out they were probably worth more like £1000.

Selling my first cav gsi. Mistral grey and absoloutley mint. Only marks on it were 4 or 5 stone chips on bumper. Really wanted another a few months later but couldnt find one that lived up to the first. Then when I finally got hold of the lad who bought it. He broke the news that it had been stolen and torched. :(

Had a mint 36k Opel Kadett c hatch about 10 years ago that I traded for a xe'd nova and sorry ever since as it was completely mint and and untouched never had a chance of getting one since :(

Breaking this. It started as a 1.8 8v gti that i bought from the scrappers and after 18 months it became a 2.0 16v 180 bhp monster till the.bottom end let go and the mrs was due to drop

Getting into cars in general. I often wonder where I would be and how better off I would be if I had not got sucked into the world of the motor car.

Things are not that bad, got a few nice Nova's and a lovely BMW. Also a lovely house with a tiny mortgage but I think what house I could have now if I had ploughed all my spare cash into that instead of depreciating rot boxes

Nope, my 2005 Corsa broke down going home from work lol well, if you count a borked boost hose as a breakdown that is.

And just to add, her Astra is actually my Astra lol just I only use on weekends :(

I dunno as such, If you just wanna jump in drive with no fuss modern is definetly the way forward. None of this rattly suspension, ear shattering loud exhaust caper etc etc.

No way in hell would I ever even dream of going back to a modified car as a daily that's for sure.

I am lucky that I get a company car so somebody else takes the depreciation hit and maintenance. I just pay for fuel and company car tax which is less than most peoples monthly insurance payment.

Best thing I've ever done was buy a modern car, I've ha my Audi 3 years now except for servicing all I've had to pay for is discs and pads, wipers and brake lights touch wood it stays this reliable :)

Oh yea that's true without a doubt, but its swings & roundabouts. Depreciation doesn't really bother me as I don't buy brand new anyway. There again, the milage I do, age depreciation would be the last of my worries if I bought new! I cant even go lease rental as they limited to 15k miles a year :(

A mk4 Golf is modern, but obviously isn't a new car. Not much expensive to go wrong, really.

Buying a 3 year old clio 172 sport with 24k miles 7 years ago. After I bought it I realised tracking was out,the glovebox was falling apart the steering wheel rubber was perished,parcel shelf rattled,a squeak everytime I changed gear, laquer peel, and when I changed down to third gear there was a slight crunch :roll:. Also when it was four years old it needed a new timing belt costing £500 as it is a c*nt to change but cheaper than £650 that renault were wanting. Then to top it off a sensor went and it took 6 months to sell it! (I had it on the road for 18 months) French crap never again! I now own a mk5 golf and have done for 5 years and had next to no probs, well chuffed :d

selling my 6j 14 steelies for £30 with, d shaped from standing for several years, yoko's on them to baxter because i stupidly thought they wouldn't fit over 256 calipers (they do. just)
the steelies were in the opel '5 spoke' pattern, which is basically the same as sr ones, but i've never seen another set, ever & they had opel hub caps..... after being sold to spud (iirc) still with the d shaped tyres, they ended up banded & on bretts euro sr.

that keeps me awake at night.
