do u know what the bhp is afterwards???
It wont be much with carbs on there own...
You need to look for otherways, a cam change usually compliments carbs very well.
With properly set up carbs with correct choke sizes etc etc on a standard engine you'll end up with 115 to 120 hp realisitically i think.. or 140hp max power figures..
or 140hp max power figures..
LOL, Dan won't be too pleased with you saying that :P Thats what he's pushing out :)
Jim
LOL yeh but thats hardly a standard gsi engine with carbs is it.. :o

Whats better doing a complete conversion or carbs??? :?:
what do you mean by conversion? 2.0 conversion?
If your going to go for carbs, you will need internal engine modifications to get the most out of them. Depends how much money you want to spend on your car. It can get pricey, but personnaly i think there well worth it :)
Jim
Depends what you want?
What engine conversion are you thinking off?

a 2.0 16v conversion
Right well...
a gsi lump can be tuned to 140/150hp as has already been said... In my opinion... these days this would cost just as much if not more than to do 2.0 16v conversion. But if you still want to be able to chuck the car round corners in theory you should stick with the 8v as its a lighter engine.
The 2.0 16v comes as 150/155hp as standard (Depending if you have a Coscast head or not) These can be tuned to 230ish IF you have the money.. 170/180 ish is not expensive and you wont compromise reliabilty too much. Basically to do the 16v conversion you need the engine and box, driveshafts, engine mounts. You'll also need to stitch weld certain points of the engine bay to streghten it. I'd say you could now do this conversion for less than ?1k with decent components..
If you want more info on the 16v conversion the best place ive seen is http://www.valvers.com
1.6 16 valver is a better conversion if you got the cash. lighter, and will fit straight in, almost
but no more power than a 1.6 8v so unless you throwing tbs and a lot of money on it, its a waste of time.
