I use a 290 http://www.autosprint.co.uk/?p=p_27 in my rally car.
I've no problems with it
My 1.4 had a kent 051 which is supposed to be mild cam. With benefits of a good head, exhaust system, it really makes a massive difference compared to my standard 1.3 SR.
A wilder one will probably give even more benfit, depending on if you want it for road use. My 1.4 lost a little torque but, the power increase over 4000 rpm is well worth it.
Many people at Knockhill remaked how they couldn't beleiev it was only a 1.4 (although xes etc did scream past me lol)

Have a look HERE (http://www.pngclub.com/forum/showthread.php?93430-*INFO*-1.4-8v-Tuning-Guide) in this article mate. I intend on doing some stuff for this as I have the same engine, fancy selling your cam and lifters once you got your new cam etc??

I will be putting a Kent AST2 in my 14NV over the weekend - an AST2 is a great all round cam and drivable at lower speeds but good performance gains too with mild porting. Works well with twin 40s too.
I ran a Piper BP270 in my previous 1.4 SR and that was a good improvement over standard too
Teddythom - I will have a 14NV cam available so drop me a PM if your interested.
