oil gauge

had a bit of a problem on my valver yesterday, the oil gauge was working fine then suddenly it shot up over the max bar about quarter way past it, pointing at about 3 0 clock why is this?

This happened on mine a bit back. What happened on mine was that when i had dropped the engine in, i left the 2 wires for the oil pressure sender hanging too low and they got caught on the drive shaft and got ripped out of the oil pressure sender. Check that the wires and sender and connections are ok.

check the earth connections from the engine to the chassis.
