That awkward moment you pull your GTE out from the garage it's been sitting in since almost 1999 lol

I'm going to be flipping a coin soon to see what one I start first, this or the silver one as they both need the same parts but this is actually an easier build.

I would of looked at that and put it straight back in there lol

It looks mainly surface rust?

Until the body kit comes off...

lollollollol cheers guys,

The rust doesn't matter as its not getting repaired all the rust areas are getting replaced,

The reason this one is easier is because its a rebuild to standard with no conversions, the engine is in a wheelbarrow up my workshop somewhere,

To be honest it would probably be quicker built than the silver one too,

Gotta laugh at the mirrors folding in too lol

22-06-13, 10:22 PM
Just don't breathe near that cross member or it'll dissolve lol

bazil
22-06-13, 10:33 PM
Yeah it was a 2.5mm steel sheet formed and welded over the crossmember when it split years ago, basically a bodge lol

The plan is plenty of new panels and rebuilt to standard factory spec :)

So

New front panel
New n/s chassis leg
New o/s chassis leg ( E16 one )
New inner wings both sides
New outer wings both sides
New doors both sides
New sills both sides
New outer full quarter both sides
New rear wheel wells both sides
New full boot floor
New rear panel
New tailgate

Replace rear chassis legs
Replace battery tray

New paint
Clean interior

Powdercoat loads of bits

That's about it lol

You might be waiting a while before the next update lol,
Just started this thread early as I had taken a few pics when I dragged it out the garage to clean the garage out, also found a LET block with crank rods and pistins hiding behind it too lol

I think most of them are red or white too! Wonder how many grey ones like yours are left ?

Will do Davie, probably bring the silver one down and put this up there someday. Probably once the welding is done on the blue one.

Now you've got me wondering if it is carmine red lol, I thought flame red was a mk2 colour?

Paint code on mine is E547 which is flame red i think,i just thought yours may be different because its an 'F' & mine is a 'G' reg?

bazil
23-06-13, 05:14 PM
Mine E535 or 76L on the poc plate, yours will be 79L ?

raf24
23-06-13, 05:29 PM
I don't recall seeing the 79L but the E547 is defo there as that was the paint code i ordered from for the respray..i think the earlier gte might have been carmine & mine might one of the first to come in flame red? I was quite surprised when i found out mine was flame as i would've guessed at carmine myself lol

bazil
23-06-13, 07:02 PM
The 79L is on the poc tag not the vin tag, here's mine with the 76L paint code :)

Its a ringer lol

Still buying a few bits for this but the exciting news is that the airfix kit is now complete :)
I will get a few pics of all the bits in the summer as I aint lying everything out in the pishing rain :-/

One of the things that always bugged me on this gte was it hated the rain, so a brand new dizzy and coil should help, These cost a few quid but gotta have shiny bits :)
