Have a 1.6 8v running T40's. Has a 4 branch and power flow exhaust but it has 3 silencers. Too many? What would you suggest, taking two away.

GTEs came with 3 silencers many cases, and I had one that sounded good with a Scorpion exhaust that had 3 silencers.
I wouldn't remove two if it were me - it would be deafening and probably a VOSA magnet, I have run 1600s on twin box SR type (rather than GTE/GSI flange) and my former rally car used this setup, using a eurorallye exhaust system.
straight though with just a back box is loud, ive had a couple, id go for one silencer and a backbox
My mongoose system, two silencers and a back box makes 3
Sounds nice, isn't loud but you can hear it and still have a conversation at 70mph without shouting at each other lol

The Magnex system on my twin40 equipped 1.3 has 3 silencers, and I like the balance of noise it gives. The car can be really quiet when driven sensibly, but floor it and the 40's sing and the exhaust roars beautifully. Thats ideal really as a loud exhaust gets tiresome on motorway journeys, but you want to be able to hear the what the cars doing when blasting it too. The twin40 carbs make a great noise at it is, so an overly loud exhaust isn't required in my opinion.
