I did this a few months ago, the sender is just wheree the oil filter is, under the engine towards the back on the drivers side.

Remove the orignial one ( I smashed mine) and put in the new one, if it's a Mk2, the wiring should be thereabouts.....

I've just fitted an oil temp and pressure gauge to mine, these are what I used : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MdQT_7gXrUk

Most gauges come with the correct sender, and the thread is normally 1/8th NPT, so you'll need a m14 male (to go onto the engine block) to 1/8th NPT (for the sender) female adaptor

Wiring is easy: for the gauge its just an earth, ignition live, illumination and feed wire to the sender. Some sender might need a separate earth too, mine did.

I fitted mine first time using a sandwich plate between the oil filter which had 1/8th takeoffs for the gauges, and have just changed to this setup

Which is a m14 x 1.5 t piece with a 1/8 npt takeoff on the side, then i have fitted a m14x1.5 to 1/8npt reducer on the end which allows me to run oil pressure and temp
