View Full Version : MK4 Astra vans
I have NO idea why I want one I just do, probably be a 1.7 dti as they seem to be within my budget (would prefer 1.9 cdti but they're expensive as I think they only came in MK5's?) I've noticed most of them come with a tow-bar, read they came as standard but have seen a couple without so probably optional extra decent MPG although this could be because they're slow as fcuk, DTUK could solve that though?
Tow-bar, good MPG, enough room for many bodies/weekly beer shop.
Do I or do I not?
Oh insurance quote came back at £612 :/ but 2002+ would mean £100-ish a year tax

Ive had a few 1.7 dtis and once you wound em up the went well. Mpg was awesome .
I have an isuzu'd mk 4 van and its awesome.
Iv got a 2.0 dti mk4 gets reasonable miles to the gallon and is a great pulling wagon but has had its problems. I'd definitely go for the 1.7
1.7tdi COMBO here,
No complaints on the engine bar the oil pump issues, mine is a 53 plate,
Oil pump issue? I have read about fuel pump issues and one other issue which I cant remember if it was engine related or car related, either way not many complaints about them.

I've had a 1.7 dti that went well but was a rotter no towbar and a 2.0 dti had 2 turbo's and a fuel pump then went scrap after finding out it had been to the moon and back and it shot an engine. That was a 1998 then a 53 plate sportive cdti much better only 135 a year to tax air con leccy windows 184k and a handy rear seat conversion. Now I have a 56 plate cdti that I fitted the rear seats windows and other cool bits off the last one had it 2 years its not let me down once. Tows a 16foot trailer with the stock car on most weekends only thing I can fault are the ****ty plastic drop links...

Hummmmmm that sounds expensive.
Still want one.
Brand new oil pump kit from Vauxhall was about £160 over the counter,
Timing belt costs not much either,

Another 1.7dti owner here. I love mine, never really had much bother with it at all. Had a flat spot fairly low in the rev range, blocked the EGR off and that got rid of that! The ECU which is bolted down the back of the engine has a habit of packing up, but these are repairable usually. They can be tuned up to about 115bhp fairly easily, any more andnthe clutches start to let go.
