I have a 1989 F 1.3sr
I'm guessing the gearbox as standard would of been a F10 right?
The engine and box I just bought has the F10 on it.
I have a F13 lying around that I have put up for sale.
But if mine would of been a 5 speed I would sooner fit the F13 and sell the F10.

What's the difference between the boxes besides one being 4 speed and the other 5 speed?
Different gear ratios?
Is one better than the other?
Fuel economy dosnt bother me on a 1.3 engine!
I won't be doing many motorway miles either.

Depends what the final drive is fitted to the F10 - 3.94 or 4.18.

4.18 is the SR box and the best one, the rest had the 3.94 - they are etched underneath WR3.94 or CR4.18

Same applies to the F13 which were fitted to GTE/GSi's and very late 1.4 SRs and SRi's.

F10s came in 4 speed and 5 speed. You can identify 4 speed boxes as the have a big bolt on the end of the casing, and no bulge where 5th gear is located.

If you look on the end casing it should give you a bit further info. It should have the final drive ratio and if it is a wide or close ratio, ie 4.18:1WR
F13's have better bearings AFAIK and a bigger bell housing to accept the larger clutch as fitted to the 1.6.

Best setup is an F13 close ratio with 4.18:1 final drive.

I can't see any numbers on the end casing. When I clean it I will check it out then.
