Aim the spray away from the holes or screw a board over the input shaft end and leave the shafts in

So of I put it down like that with a board or something under it and plug any holes from this side it should be ok to power wash it?

I just went for it and power washed it came up pretty well, I plugged the holes with rags then denso tape over the top of them done the job.
So what's best to paint it with? :)
why not use alloy wheel cleaner??
then use whatever hardwearing paint you like.

mr muscle is good.
Not so good though when the mrs sees its missing........lol
andy... try ever had to explain why the stuff in the dishwasher came out muckier than it went in???? lol lol
de-greaser and a hose pipe will do it. Then paint it with hammmerright/or the wickes copy that is way better.

benn have you had good results with the wickes metal paint then? the reviews on there website turned me off buying it
the white aerosol stuff is pretty good. we use it on our white transits to hide the rust patches.....
so they are nearly fully resprayed now lol lol lol

It is 100000million times and & better than the crap hammeright stuff. I use the black and silver on everything. And have never had a single problem.
Most stuff doesn't even need degreasing.
Hammeright changed they way they make it, its utter crap now, really watery, wont stick, hard to paint. Stopped using it over 2 years ago.
Wickes direct to metal all the way.

Thanks for that I'll give it another clean down then I'll get some of that wickes stuff painted on. Is it a spray or a tin?
Cheers :thumb:
i always use my mates hot wash and wheel acid, brings them up like new!!
Wickes changed their paint supplier about 2~ years ago and actually started to get some really decent stuff in so I'm not surprised it's better than Hammerite. Even the emulsion stopped falling off the walls and instead beat Dulux in a few blind tests lol
Hammerite got taken over by Wickes previous supplier and they then proceeded to take out all the good stuff to get the VOC label on the front to a better colour, making it complete rubbish in the process.

Oh right, the mix change, what ever they took out was the one good thing of it... The wicks stuff is great, doesn't discolour and is really hard wearing. Like hammeright used to be years ago. Cheaper too.

GUNK Engine Degreaser is a foamy spray stuff that works very well. I use a kitchen washing up brush to scrub it and then spray again, leave for a little while and wipe with a cloth.

My box was nasty. Gunk and a pressure washer sorted it though.

Went over with a wire wheel to get the last bits off then hammerited it.
