How do you remove the crack pulley on a 1.3?

I've started to remove the stuff for head gasket change, makes sense to put on a new cambelt whilst doing this.

I'm at teh stage of cambelt removal but I cannot get the bottom ppulley off the way haynes says, ie car in gear and handbrake on. The pulley etc just turns round.

If you look from at where the drivers side driveshaft comes out the gearbox you can see a few teeth on the flywheel. Get a large screwdriver and wedge it in the teeth to lock the flywheel.

thanks I'll try that, now I'm stuck with the exhaust/manifold bolts, have to say I'm not a fan of wrking on these ohc units, a lot harder than the ohvs! Moan over.

if the manifold studs are seized, undo the exhaust downpipe, & simply take the head & manifold off in one piece

5 hours on and it's all back together except the exhaust/manifold.
