You've got more money than most of us so you can afford to experiment lol
You getting one are ya? I like the idea of the slimline one.... Not as much to cut out the boss.

conad
07-06-13, 12:36 AM
You work on offshore stuff, and nights.... Your wadded lol
I want to shorten the steering wheel boss so I can keep the wheel as close to original position as possible.
When you getting it then?

bazzap8389
07-06-13, 12:38 AM
Haha

Ah right got ya, I'll order it up today when I'm home from work :)

Before i fitted the snap off it annoyed me and ive seen it done before. Im gona get my cousin to do it next week for me will post up pics

Mark
07-06-13, 08:11 AM
Why didn't you just buy a specific boss with built in snap off instead of going to the lengths of cutting it down then?

conad
07-06-13, 09:01 AM
It won't take me long, and playing with metal is what I do best... Plus it saves me money lol

Mark

Okay.

8valve-craig
07-06-13, 09:46 AM
Yeah thats what I'm worried about, what makes a good 1 good then?

A good one will have a splined fitting and be made out of quality metal / alloy.

The ones with the pins or ball bearings inevitably have play in them, some more so than others.

For a road car on a budget i would reccomend the Brown and Geeson at about £90, although for outright quality only the Lifeline one will do.

Mine is a weld on one which wont be to everyones taste. but it eliminates the Boss which can be an advantage in some cars.

Oooh I really don't like the idea of a weld on one... But THIS (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GOLD-SNAP-OFF-QUICK-RELEASE-STEERING-WHEEL-BOSS-KIT-HUB-RALLY-RACING-GROUP-N-/290923095878?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item43bc5e2746) is the best of both worlds.

Iain
07-06-13, 10:26 AM
How's that the best of both worlds? That plus a normal boss would bring the wheel forward quite a bit.

conad
07-06-13, 10:28 AM
Because it's a splined quick release but doesn't involve welding to the column. I would try shortening the boss anyway.

The ones above and tbe other weld on type are ok for a track car but they are just aslong as what we already have and them shiney gold things would look daft in my nova imo

L14MNP
07-06-13, 11:26 AM
Weld-on ftw. It's not much hassle to remove the column on a car, and do it right.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v698/ManorQuay/Volvo%20360/20120212_193527.jpg (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/ManorQuay/media/Volvo%20360/20120212_193527.jpg.html)

Best way imo.

MK999
07-06-13, 11:38 AM
Best way indeed but it does depend what you're doing with the car. While I'll definitely be doing that for the nova I very much doubt I'd attempt it if I ever wanted one on the BMW.

And I did consider it because a snap off kit is less than a steering wheel lol

chrisd1986
07-06-13, 11:41 AM
Im only fitting one for extra security for mine

07-06-13, 12:18 PM
