Right ladies and gents, ive just come across 2x 12" competition/SPL subwoofers 3000w each, was just wondering if i stay with 3000w or do i go big ;) also has anyone ever done a boot build in a vauxhall nova before, want the sound to be very bassy and punchy :thumb:
That will be 'peak' power.... realistically they will do about 750W average and more realistically 500W.
Obviously match to a peak amp
All that bass and punch will just make the rust fall off quicker than usual :p

No rust to fall of.. Yet :p the subs are rated at 3000w peak and 1000w rms each
You do know that 'rated at' and 'will sound good' are very different things dont you?

Iirc there is a 120 amp alternator on some omegas that fits, personally I'd seek advice on talk audio mate its a great forum for audio advice, all my advise came from on there building this in my saloon

As long as you have a man enough power capacitor it should be fine. Here's what I had in my first Nova (which is for sale now for just £100 ;))

This was my first ever build and the components weren't the best but still sounded great in the Nova. 6x9's hidden under the lightening bolt cut outs and powercap in behind.

Does this omega alternator have a single v pulley? And an install that demands that amount of power would defiantly need an upgraded alternator and possibily twin battery's, as a power cap mearley stiffens the voltage, not atchually producing more amps which is what an install of this size would need to be run efficiently.
Power caps are utter crap. Believe me. I had 8 JBL GT4's in a ported wall enclosure in the back of my astra G. All caps do is look fancy, drain quick, then your alternator struggles to cope as its trying to refill the cap AND power your amps.

Try the big 3 first off, with a higher rated battery up front. See here. http://www.the12volt.com/installbay/forum_posts.asp~TID~73496~PN~1
The big 3 makes a massive difference. Just make sure you earth your amps to solid metal and not flimsy tin crap else you will fail before you start. 2nd or more batteries and bigger alternator are last resort material
