I'm looking at putting bigger breaks on the nova as it will have a c20let when done.
I'm looking at either 256mm off a Calibra. Or 288 off a Calibra turbo (drilled to 4 stud)

The bit I'm not sure about is the master cylinder and servo!
The master cylinder and servo I have at the min are off a GTE nova.

Do I need a bigger one to run either of the bigger discs??

What I don't want is massive breaks that don't nip up enough because the master cylinder can't push enough fluid!?

Any advice much appreciated
Thanks

When you say upgrade breaks do you mean a 10 minute tea break to a 15 minute tea break ??
puzzled

lol
i used 256 x 24 until i had crackage then upgraded to 288 x 24 i used these inline with the GTE servo to improve pedal travel i adjusted the 15mm nut on the top brake pedel only about 2/3 turns anymore and the brakes would be binding on all the time hope this helps

The main thing when doing this is get decent pads. Discs don't really make a difference at all, on my track car I run 256mm cheapo standard GSF discs with ferrodo DS2500 pads and it stops extremely well. Don't run DS2500's on road though as they need to be warm to work. Spend a bit more and get decent pads, you really won't regret the extra cash outlay.

I run V6 calipers (can't remember off the top of my head which of the two piston sizes they are) on the stock MC and servo. Not a lot happens for the first 1/3 or so pedal travel but after that they work very well. Just something you get used to really.

V6 are always the big ones I thought?

The 'decent' size pistons are 284mm Calibra turbo?

I'm selling a 288mm calibra turbo disks and callipers setup I bought for my project, but won't fit under the wheels I want to use.

284! Probably sell them faster like that, most people don't know the piston sizes off hand :p

In fact when I read your ad I assumed it was the 'usual' 288mm setup.

Oh, didn't take measurements, I believed that the calibra setup was 288mm, if not then there as you say lol

calibra V6 is 288, calibra turbo is 284 and has the 'nicer' piston size for Nova setups. They look identical though and I'm pretty sure the 288 discs fit anyway?

I did know the piston sizes years ago when I was trying to get a set, because it's cast into the caliper.

I think they used both on V6 and turbo, pretty sure when I was musing the parts listings for pads/discs a while back both sizes were listed on both cars. IIRC its 57mm and 54mm pistons

Parts listings for Vauxhall are always all over the place though, I remember always having to check 3 or 4 engine codes to get the right bits for my old 8v.

Piston sizes ring a bell though.

Was under the impression the disc size changed with the face lift on the Calibra (when V grill was added) this was on both V6 and turbo.

Either way thank you everyone.
At least my MC will be up to the job either way.

Does anyone have a schematic diagram of a 256 disc?
There are 2 thicknesses according to Autovaux. I've been waiting for a email from them with dimensions so I can confirm if the disc I have are correct or not

Ones I was sold

I don't know what I've got tbh.
The callipers someone said look French. But that left me questioning the discs I was sold!

That's why I thought if I get schematics I could work out what I have.
(Have to check thickness later)

I have a chap getting back to me with a price on 288 discs.
Or I have these 256 ones with the wrong callipers (in link)

They look like 284 or 288 as they dont have any side vents on the discs in that picture they may even be fiat discs sorry to say but the pic you have got with the caliper is a bit kack (to dark cant see it )

I'll check tonight what size they are.
I know what you mean about vented part.

Thanks

I'd rather the 288 that are drilled to 4 stud (if the bloke gets back to me)
