Got round to fitting my bearings to the rods today. 4 of the bearings were solid, 4 had two holes in them which lined up with either the hole on the crank or the hole on the conrod, im assuming these are for oil.

Does it matter which side they go on? ive put the solid ones on the cap side and the ones with holes on the conrod side.

correct way round... oil feed will be from the block.

edit, still correct way round but I didn't read that properly, it will have a small hole drilled down it's length to the small end for oil feed.

make sure that you lube them up as you fit them on the inner face so when you put the crank in it wont be dry to turn

Yeah should definitely be using assembly lube, that's a given!

only one of the shells has holes in it. ill get photos next time in work.

and yes they were put in with engine assembly lube

pressure is fed from the block, down into the mains, then from the mains there is a ~45 degree hole in the crankshaft, that feeds the bottom end bearings, then in the rods there is a hole that feeds the small end... make sense?

So you should have a hole, and corresponding hole in the bearing in the mains, on the block side, not cap and on the big ends, rod side, not cap.

yes it all makes sense now. i kinda had a simple moment and couldnt work out the crank actually turns inside the bearings -_- so yes, its all good

Yeah pressure is fed around the bearing, the holes don't have to line up for it to flow or anything like that.
