Hello all,

I need to do some welding on my Nova loon and I have been looking into gasless mig welders as budget is a bit tight at the moment.

I was wondering if anybody has any information or views on any specific welders at a good budget.

The main welding i will be doing is for my roll cage and welding hangers for my exhaust just to give an idea of what gauge steel i will be welding.

Also if anybody has any gasless mig welders for sale that they have found work well please let know.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you in advance and regards.

Alex

I wouldn't be welding a roll cage with Gasless. If you can't afford, rent one :)

As above

I have one, and get good results on thin panels - its better than I expected it to be.

However, I wouldn't use it on thicker stuff - it wouldn't get the penetration, as John said rent a decent welder if your doing a roll cage.

Ive got a sealy mighty mig turbo mk2 running 0.9 flux cord and its $hit for anything thinner than 2mm and i only ever use it for welding nuts onto rounded bolts but it was originally a gas welder but it never had the regulator when i got it (it was £45 2nd hand in a back street tool shop) and i rarely use it as im no expert welder i just bought it and and had a go

Thanks all for your comments, the only problem i have at the moment is the price of gas welders... unless anyone knows where i can get a cheap unit with a bottle from?

BOC do small bottles now. Can't remember the size, but is equivalent to something like 35 of those dog **** hobby bottles. £35.

Yes they do in arogshield light, not too sure on what size they're called but they sit about 50cm high, looks to hold 20 litresish, i still wouldn't go BOC, £35 would be lease fee then you'd have rental charges on that.

Getting pub gas is still a cheaper alternative, you can buy an equivalent BOC size Y cylinder for £50ish and down my end it cost £15 per refill. For the differences in weld quality the price doesn't justify.

If I were you buy reasonable gas welder. Do what you need to do then sell it on when your finished.

35 of those dog **** hobby bottles. £35.

Don't knock 'em, I welded in x4 seat rails, stitch welded an engine bay, hydraulic handbrake conversion & then built the Loonaque using one £15 disposable bottle.
