Haha na mate yours is going to look awsome :) and defo one off tell me tho will all the weaves of carbon run in a straight line from quarter to door to wing? Just thought about that today an wasn't sure how would work?
bazzap8389
28-05-13, 11:50 PM
Does look good standard though, kinda thought about buying another nova to put the carbon on but just can't justify 4 cars already tempted to sell one off.
I don't have the quarter yet but the wings and the doors match up so hopefully looks the part.
I still need to come in past and see your one or if your at the gym on Thursday give me a shout and I'll meet you.
scorge01
28-05-13, 11:58 PM
Sell the Toyota as much as u don't want to makes sence as you won't ever do much with it whilst focusing on nova and would be good to have another Gsi about and I have a base model shell to do carbon to and fit big lump :)
Standard mint Gsi ftw :)
Also might pop thro tommorow night if I finish early enough :)
bazzap8389
29-05-13, 12:05 AM
I have thought about selling it recently along with the Audi, been offered a well spec'd skyline r33 gtr for a very good price just the insurance is a bit higher then I'd like to pay.
Yeah it is indeed but hopefully it will look standard ish except the carbon but it's all moulds from proper nova parts not wide arch or anything and if I want to put it back to standard ill have all the parts.
Give me a shout if your coming in past think I'll be at the lockup around 6.

14-06-13, 11:57 PM
Cheers mate yeah loved the comps on it but my white one has 16" comps so didn't want both having so when the mistrals came up couldn't belive my luck :) so went for them seen a set of 17" mistrals on a nova an looked awsome so should go well with the arch friendly size
Yea they'll look awesome on it I'd love a standard minter like that mines clean but far from standard. Should be worth a fortune and getting harder to find every day. What's your plans with it?
scorge01
15-06-13, 12:13 AM
You got a thread on yours?
Well plans are new rear quarters as had repair panels fitted roughly and then painted that's about it poss fit the 8v turbo kit that came with it but unsure yet as wont be keeping it for too long as already have a white Gsi I'm building an saving for house so can't keep both :(
Yea it's on here 'nova xe project ' not been at it much the last while but getting the itch to get it finished and driving again Would you be asking much for yours when it's for sale. You've prob a good line up waiting to buy it already It'd be a nice one for a keeper

MM Dronten are coming over to Billing, told them to bring LH rear quarters for you guys. :)
RH quarter looks good Mark, you make swapping a panel look so easy! Good job!!

It never ceases to amaze me that some people use the full size of the repair section!
whats the point welding in a smaller section, using the full section keeps it stronger and less welding and no pon on the arch itself
No it just fcuks the quarter panel,
When I fitted them I use as little of the repair section as possible while completly removing the rust on the quarter, but what would I know it was only the way I learned from my tradesman,
If a smaller section had been used it could be repaired again rather than replacing the quarter
i had them fitted to a shell and done the trick, had the arch repair sections fitted years ago and just need ispon to fill in the mess
whats the point welding in a smaller section, using the full section keeps it stronger and less welding and no pon on the arch itself
Why cut out and replace more than you have to? Theirs simply no need! On all my novas that we've replaced arches we've kept it minimal only replacing 20-30mm above the return lip even when making inner repairs also. This way the filler can be kept to the flat part of the arch making it a lot easier to shape and look completely original. All is documented in my wip and you'll see it works very well. ;)
Nick.
seems everyone to there own, why restore a nova to bare shell when you can just repair what you can see,

Atleast the panels fitted well, whoever fitted the quarter on mine must of done it whilst drinking stella standing on one leg with his eyes shut.its about 10 mm to low and 5 mm to far back lol. But as its gonna be a road rally car and ultimately probably wrote off . Ill live with it lol

I take everyone's point of view here but there was corrosion around light ryt along sill quarter just covered it there repair panels fitted were ryt up to the top of the bottom flat part and were pop riveted on and really roughly fitted and also followed ryt down behind bumper so wasn't willing to have patches everywhere so that was reason for full quarter guys I'm happy with decision so that's all that matters :)

Dont get me wrong.... With the way that repair arch has been fitted I would want to replace it with a full quarter but as a general rule of thumb when fitting repair panels I'd always want the smallest section possible fitted. I'd always prefer repair panels to a full quarter though also. If I was looking to buy a car in today's market and found it had a replacement quarter I'd walk away. Their never the same once all the seams have been opened up and messed with regardless of who's fitted it.

Yeah know what what you mean mate but it was such a mess I didn't want bits everywhere so took the alternative that seemed best to me at time il know better for other side tho :) everything will be well sealed etc before paint tho so should be fine, a lot better than previous repairs anyways :)

Cheers mate :) I agree with the guys yeah the seams have been exposed but they were built that way and in my reckoning if was done correctly if it was fine new then can't see why it's not now? The seams were primed with weld thro primer aswell so way I see it is it's tidier than the alternative I had and far less filler so I'm chuffed to bits with it :)
also so he will be but not yet couple weeks before he starts it I belive :)

Well removed the nicely fitted repair panel today and found exactly what I expected :(
really unhappy with the work that has been previously done on the quarters and if was done by a bodyshop they need shut down panels were welded straight over the rust and tbf they probably weren't that bad when work was carried out as have been done for years and since rot was never treated or even cut out could have been a lot worse
but heres a few pics
