When I was looking at getting one, it was devilbiss gti or iwata WS forget the exact numbers, or the gti pro and whatever the expensive Iwata is if you wanna spend a bit more, I was looking at 2nd hand for more gun for the money. Sata are meant to be the dogs bollocks for clearcoating but more fragile and require more care.

I've got a cheap clarke with a 1.8 tip for primering and planned to try and get a gti pro on a badly listed auction or something for colour/clearcoat.

so basically everyones pushing towards the devilbiss, trust it to be the most expensive. I know you get what you pay for with things, I just don't know the difference between good/bad. hopefully nick j notices the thread as novasport suggested.

devilbiss are good because everyone uses them, so spares are relatively cheap and easy on ebay etc, but then you pay more for the gun, Iwata are meant to be just as good but do go for similar-ish money but parts aren't as easy... swings and roundabouts really.

I went from a £15 gravity gun to a £200 divilbis gti. It was worth every penny in my opinnion.

What do you think of THIS (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Devilbiss-SLG-610-Solvent-Gravity-Spray-Gun-1-3-Air-Regulator-Gauge-/180798862435?pt=UK_Body_Shop_Supplies_Paint&hash=item2a1873b463) then guys?

i used a £15 ebay one to paint my E30...but now im doing wheels all the time after work i bought that one in your post. The Devilbiss SLG. with a pressure regulator and watertrap it works perfectly at 60psi. Heres the finish ive managed to get in a cold, dusty warehouse.

Looks stunning dude. I cant help but want the bergen though, it's a fraction of the cost and German made, seen a few good comments on other forums but not actually spoke to someone who's used them. So its a toss up between the slg and a bergen. I'd love an flg-5 but don't really want to spend £100.

i wasnt sure on the SLG as i read reviews saying its a cheap devilbiss, doesnt spray well etc, but my mate uses one as well so i thought id give it a go. its only a 1.3 nozzle so if you were to add flake i think it will only allow upto 100mic through.

Hi,
Hope you don't mind me butting in on your thread but intrested in knowing same kind of info.

Someone gave me a devilbliss JGA-54 5
Suction fed. And I'm curious about how good/ bad they are.
Complete noob to spraying. :/

I wouldn't be adding flake, just epoxy primer, basecoat and lacquer.

As for suction feed, you get a LOT of over spray and need a big ass compressor (someone feel free to correct me though)

We use various devilbis guns in our body shop. Swear by them, would not use anything else.

that gun does all of them fine. only thing i had to do was on the pot lid was make the hole bigger, it has something like a 2mm hole which would cause a vacuum and the paint wouldnt come out properly. quick drill with a big 8mm bit and boom, worked fine

Cheers for that fella

So I suppose the next question being is the flg worth the extra £50 over the slg... And why?

Bubba

quickly looking the only difference i can see by the looks is the spray nozzle has 4 holes around the needle,. not two like the slg. not entirely sure what difference that makes lol.

Would of thought that would only be to do with the airflow... Hence change the paint fan. Not worth the extra dollar surely.

Looks ok, but i've not heard of them.

yeah the 2 holes vs 4 holes, it's to fan the spray, on the two holes you turn the nozzle to fan it what way you want if you have it active. The 4 holes i can only assume there's a nozzle on the gun to change airflow.

the Bergen that was just posted looks like a copy of draper (or vice versa) we got a draper one in the other week and i was pleasently surprised with how it sprayed and what came in the box

Some times getting a bargain isn't worth it. Spead a few and get the better tool.

I have a clarke 1.8 nozzle and a 1.4 nozzle. I can get a great finish with both and they cost about £60. I would go for the bergen, looks better than mine and is a good price. Unless you paint all the time you done need a £200 spray gun.
