Thanks, i take it it has to be for a x16xe or will there be different ones for that aswell?

You want it matching the engine. Due to fuel map and such.

Superchips ECU remaps will optimize the performance of your car helping to maximize your driving pleasure. Engine tuning for petrol or diesel engines will change your driving experience.

Then tell me about Superchips if you know better?

Crap idle,
A bumpy rev curve.
A leaning of fuel when revved hard/high.
A raised rev limit when the power drops right off.
Bad fuel economy.
When driving at low revs (ie:around towns or such) they give a unsmooth/lumpy run.

Do i need to say more? Used one for a few months. Worse "chip" i even used.

And on modern vehicles where they simply ruin the calibration... well im sure some people are happy with the limitations of that type of work but it sure as hell invalidates warranty etc lol

No, that will be the bellend opening the ecu with a screw driver...

Modern cars often have a way of telling if the ECU has been fiddled with, and opening ECU's is a thing of the past!

Often... Nope. ALWAYS!! ;)

Hex dump, check against released hex... if there is a difference where it shouldn't be, game over.
Plust 9/10 times this 'mapping' work is done by people guessing what a table looks like from the hex and messing with it, just plain risky. Especially on a diesel with £1-4K worth of Fuel Injection Equipment that can easily be damaged by incorrect calibration.

Well if that's all you got then easy, reload standard map, off to the dealers and remap again :p

I meant they often have timestamped maps, or number of hours in use or some sort of log.

ye a simple checksum will tell you if the current map is different, but not if the OE map has been reloaded after a modified one. There are other things in more modern ECUs, trackers, logs and the like. Ie number of times limiter hit, max RPM,time/load stamps... i wouldnt worry about it with an 14XE though

If you've got warranty on a 14XE I'd be impressed.

But on topic: Superchips are only any good if of the potato variety, I quite like Burger Kings myself.

You know what I mean though

Warranty thing was aimed at ML since he said he wouldn't worry about on a 14XE...

But I do know what you mean. Personally I'd say they actually make a noticeable difference on a diesel though and I've never heard of one failing drivetrain wise lol

I drove a "remapped" 11 plate a5 v6 diesel the other day, went very well indeed! (showed up on out computers as "TD1" meaning its had the software altered, thus invalidating any sort of manufacturers warranty) I also got to drive a dpf delete/remapped 8v 2.0 tdi, went better than a 170 bhp 16v!

Don't even get me started on DPF's! Useless POS euro emissions bull****. I had a Volvo S40 as a hire car while my BMW was being written off, and it did about 20MPG down from the stated 50+ because the DPF was blocked up with, diesel particulates, utterly gutless too. Worst bit, 15,500 miles!

Designed to pass 1 emissions test at 0 miles and a nuisance for every mile after.

Drivetrain copes, its the fuel pumps etc that have a hugely shortened life, I've seen the testing done to see what these remap goons do.

Powertrain then :p I'm a chassis man, the icky greasy bits is all drivetrain lol Anyway I'm sure of the extra stress on certain components, it's inevitable when asking more of something, but I've not seen any failures which you could attribute instantly to a remap.
