Ok so basically I had a mk 1 1 litre ohv 2door hatch in red when I was 19 and it looked great , at this point I was working for a custom body shop and was a qualified panel beater and sprayer by trade . I bought it for 250 with a full gte kit fitted inc rims lowered with a stainless rear box all that it wanted was rear arches and paint which cost me nothing but my time as I liberated 2 litres of post office red paint . I loved it but the power and four speed box didn't meet my want for power and a friend loved it and gave me a grand and it was gone . Even in possession of manya quick car since I kicked myself for not fitting a bigger engine to and keeping it . So fast forward to last August and I'm hanging round an industrial estate waiting for some tyres to be fitted and I see an early sr sat outside a lock up flat tyres , flat paint work and interior stripped . I knocked on the door and asked about it the guy was a mechanic and it was an unfinished project which was realistically not gonna be finished it had done 60 k with fsh from 1987

Oops I jumped in to quick lol
Looks like a great project! I'd love an earlier mk1 sr than mine!
Very rare front fogs like it

So anyways if you look closely you'll make out filler on the rear arches indicating arch replacement which was the only welding needed , I couldn't believe it when I got it on a ramp and it had never been welded but I didn't need to do any either which had banked on

So primed up now was when I started getting a clue that I should keep it fairly original as I couldn't believe the money these were worth on decent mileage so rubbed it down and silver it was

The gte interior is nice but only worth around £100 from what I've seen these last few months.
The Daytona (Chav) interior is worth around £500+ ;)
And in my opinion looks far better! :)
I envy you lol

The last bit of the reg is fuk as well which I like
Be nice to see it complete again. I have to ask though, why not remove the front lights/bumper, bound to have been easier than masking it all off!

Mental isn't it lol
It's rare to find any for sale! There's a guy on here that must have at least 10 sets in a lockup! :(
The value on the sr will only rise and the Daytona check will be a deal clincher! It's going to add value and desire to the sale!

Awesome thanks for the info , I'm kinda gutted its such a low mileage nice one as my plan was to build something quiet lairy but I have some other stuff on the go to cure the speed itch but would of loved a proper quick nova
Pulsar_stu

You could always sell it when it's done and buy a mental nova lol
Then kick yourself years later when the price of them is rediculous lol

Looking good, makes me cry inside when I see people mask up things that can be easily removed though. Why not spend a day stripping windows, lights and bumpers off the car and make it look perfect with no masked edges?
Topmanbeny
12-05-13, 02:15 PM
I know sell it and buy an xe or sumin . And to mini man it was my intension to do a complete bare metal job on it but if you look at the pictures you'll notice it wasn't done in an oven and the thought of going down the road of making every last piece of 28 year old trim perfect to have it 100 percent perfect was going to take more money and time than it was worth rather than say 98 percent perfect but I totally know what you mean

Fair enough mate, I guess you can only go so far with a car before it becomes a full resto job!
Topmanbeny
12-05-13, 07:13 PM
In my heart that's what I wanted a full resto job but the budget it was built on wouldn't have been enough and my lovely father gave me 6 months to get it out of his garage and that was in September and to make matters worse I then parked another in his words ( sack of **** ) there lol but I won't speak of what that is as it's not a vauxhaul lol
It is good to see another SR being restored

Fancy making a template up and sending it to me so I can make my own? Lol
Topmanbeny
17-05-13, 08:08 AM
I thought about doing it and painting them on as the door bottoms and pillars would be easy enough but the boot one I just thought sod that when they're available on eBay , but if your gonna try n save some dough maybe just paint your door bottoms and pillars and order the boot one ?

I've bought some vinyl already mate. Looks pretty much spot on to the original stuff. I'm gonna try and make a template on the car before I remove the old vinyl.
I will probs just mask the rear one when it goes for paint?
How did you remove your old vinyl? Heat gun?
Topmanbeny
17-05-13, 10:01 PM
Yeah heat gun and a Stanley blade as a plastic scraper was getting me know where plus if you do mark the paint it's coverd by vinyl anyway but as it is mine had a whole re spray any way so it defo didn't matter

Small update after discovering my exhaust system was fudged http://i1302.photobucket.com/albums/ag125/topmanben/1CE5F12B-89F5-4520-9CE5-AE4DACFBB3C7-735-0000005D1288514D_zps4e6beaa7.jpg I bought this Remus system and 4 to 1 manifold for £150 but not sure about the manifold also noticed that my standard front brakes were the size of milk bottle tops and non vented ?????!!!!! So I've got the front set up from a 2 litre cavalier coming which seams a sensible mod http://i1302.photobucket.com/albums/ag125/topmanben/B39CA933-87CD-4EDD-9D01-7F946510CD62-735-0000005D5AB819A0_zps422cd0e2.jpg

Really don't think it's worth putting the 4 into 1 on unless your running something really wild as the standard ones quite decent in terms of genera performance , think if it were fitted it would give me bragging rights but not a lot else
Where did you get the Remus system from mate
Topmanbeny

Gumtree some lad just killed his gte track car which is where I got the brakes to

I finished flatting and polishing today I was reasonably happy from this and I suddenly looked into my boot where my rear boot trim ( the large one with the lock in it ) was looking back at me and I thought now was a good time to put it back on so I went to fit it only to find the wholes in the boot didn't line up with the threads in the trim ? So I googled images of novas and basically the person who owned it before me has drilled holes that don't line up to fit a trim that early novas don't have so the moment I thought the paint work part of the project was finished I end up needing to weld up holes in my boot and re paint it , bugger!
