Poorly Nova :(

I was driving home from the fiancee's house on Saturday afternoon when I noticed a rattling noise fromt the engine under load. First panic was it was to do with the recent cam/head work I had done. By the time I got back it was really not sounding healthy at all.

Stripped it down today to try and find the root of the problem.

Bloody lucky as the bearings had given up and the cambelt was on the verge of coming off.
Off to Vauxhall tomorrow to get a new water pump, tensioner, and cambelt. Then should be back on the road :)

christ u were lucky there mate. If i hear a rattle under my engine and i cant see what it is just by opening the bonet then i leave it untill i can afford for someone to take a look at it :lol:

well as i dont know anyhting about engines, i dont really know what im looking at, but all i can say is that you were lucky to find the fault when you did, theres only one thing i know about engines, itll get worst if you leave it!

Its a water pump. As its driven by the cambelt if it fails it can get quite nasty sas the belt comes off and valves clash with pistons.

Clean the underside of your bonnet though mate!!!!

Why not go and get the under bonnet sound deading mat and clips from Vauxhall?

Because the sound proofing is shite and just ends up falling off and looks tatty.
