Looking at speakers at the moment and have been staring and staring at my car, thinking of somewhere clever to put them.. I was thinking possibly on the door cards, or next to the rear seats in the sides. Or.. if it's possible, in the footwell on the slanted bit below the seats.
Any ideas ? pics would be great !

behind the dash & under the parcel shelf is still pretty good....but the door & rear cards would be pretty good too

don't try to fit them in the footwell under the rear seats, as the fuel tank is there, oh & the road will be about 5" away from them

aah true... didnt think about the fuel tank.. it'd look pretty nice there though, shame. I think i'll probably go for the door cards

the rear parcel shelf supports are good, if it is mk1 and they are carpeted, they can be fitted and you can't see them. If it's bass you are after, there is not really a good alternative to 6x9s in the parcel shelf, the boot then acts as your speaker box.

The dash ones are ok but you'll never get deep bass there do to acoustics (yawn!)

I quite like being able to see them, I'll look at some pics of parcel shelfed/door carded and see how i feel about them !

Good head Unit and pioneers with high wattage, you'll be all set. When I was younger I wanted bass in one of my novas but didn't want to cut the rear parcel shelf so, put a house hifi subwoofer in the boot, in the rear view mirror you constantly saw the rear window vibrating. Now I'm old I have no need for this with radio 2 lol

a good set of highs in the dash (replace old ones), mids in the rear cards (as long as they aren't uncut GSI ones) and a single 10" QUALITY sub in the boot..... acoustic perfection :thumb:

haha thanks Conad! so you reckon i should just fit them everywhere ? :P and hahaa thats great marc, i've got a mate with a series 2 landy, the engines so loud he had to put two real amps from a dj set or band pa system in the back ! literally just sat them there in the back and wired them up

its not necessarily putting them everywhere... you already have speakers in the dash so your just replacing them with better ones designed for high range frequency, then your adding a set of mids (say 6") in the rear quarters. Then you've got the bass sorted by a neat little sub in the boot, its not going over the top, you'd just be getting the best sound you can that way rather than having a 'do it all' speaker... not that theres anything wrong with 6x9s

I'd love to do it, I might do eventually when i get the money, but i'll definetly put the 6's in the rear quarters for now.

been thinking about speakers for my van but with the back half being open i can't really find anywhere to mount speakers and it does get used as a van so can't really have a sub rolling round in the back any advice people.
oh and it's a mk2 and only had 1 of the dash speakers.
i have currently got 2 4inch vibe mids with tweeters sitting loose on my front dash shelfs and house surround sound speakers behind the seats but the sound quality is crap and i like listening to anything from pendulum to metallica and avenged sevenfold so must have decent bass tone.
cheers for any suggestions and sorry for hyjacking the thread

I had a sub box in my ply lined mk4 astra van, screwed to the floor with a steel cage around it. I also had some 6x9s cut into the sides with the standard speaker covers to protect them... never had a problem

Ive got dash speakers .. Think they are original tbh as one tends to play up and needs a "tap" on cover to wake it up.
Theres alot of options, and some already mentioned are good like a front upgrade, mids and a sub. Ive got dash to possibly be replaced, door cards came cut with holes in (sadly) so speakers in them. Im thinkin of shelf support rears rather than cut the shelf

You can have the exposed set up so your hard work can be seen, or stealth and keep it all hidden under panels and that. One member not sure of name has put his head unit in purpose built holder and cahe in glove box for ultimate stealth and security ..
But I look forward to seeing and hearing your plans :)

if you've already got holes in the cards just throw some mids in there, no need to gut anything else then. sorted!!

thats why i got the 4 inch vibes but they are about 10 mm to deep to wedge in the original holes i'm thinking of making some mdf boxes to put speakers in behind the seats as i have a bulkhead behind the seats with a bit of a gap between. don't really want to be taking up any of the load space as when it's used as a van it's fully loaded usually with tyres.
what speakers have people fitted in the original dash holes in a mk2 dash?

What about a couple of amped under seat subwoofers mounted under both front seats. They are quite compact and will give you your lows descreatly then upgrade the standard 4" dash and rear shelf support speakers
