doh the head gasket has gone on my 1.4 (not been right since i went through a deep water splash in the winter) chocolate substance in header tank and bubble noises from heater matrix, slight water and oil usage no smoke
i have a 1.2 engine complete as well as other bits... how should i progress?
Well when my head gasket went the first time i got it straight into my mates garage! Didnt want to damage the engine at all!
Has it ever happened before?

right the 1.2 engine is now stripped and the head is in a box ready to go to headway for an overhaul.... i've got a 1.3 inlet in the dishwasher
now the next question what gaskets do i use with the 1.4 bottom and the 1.2 head???
yeh yeh rick very funny..... i didn't think it was that deep when i hit it

The 1.2 head will raise the CR a fair bit. Its difficult to assess accurately without measuring the combustion chamber in the head and piston crown area with a burette or similar. I would try and go for the thickest you can get - I have heard you can get thicker specials made up but they cost ??s so maybe a std Vaux 1.4 one as a starter? - check a few with vernier calipers?
Otherwise I think its worth a go. Although the 1.2 is a "safe" engine and the 1.4 isnt I think if you run a std ish lift/ duration cam (1.4 or 1.6) I would have thought the valve clearances would be fine. It ought to be a good candidate for a 32/34 carb try out?
How reliable it is for normal road driving remains to be seen. I have been told that as the CR is increased the more normal road driving becomes a problem cos it tends to induce large localised temperature variations which damage the engine.
I've not had a 1.3 apart to compare its head with the 1.2 but if they are similar you should be OK

Keep us posted anyways.
