Back to Nova ownership after about 5 or so years :d

I have owned a few novas, but never a nice example like this. Its a 1.2 Flair model and it has had 1 elderly owner up to march this year! 66.000 miles, garaged and serviced regularly. I actually found this on ebay and because the lady was not very good at advertising and showing off the novas best bits I got it for 795 which I thought was very reasonable.

I have the origanal service book, origanal registration document from when the elderly dude purchased it, and a nice box of cleenex tissues that he kept near the glove box.

Im unsure of plans yet but Ill be very picky not to ruin the originality of it.

Cheers for the comments, main things will be the usual suspension, wheels and brakes. I have already bought wheels but they are very different and no one has put them on a nova before, however they are 4x100 and the correct offset so I can go lows :)

Its been a good day, I have my own lockup! and I also replaced the distributor cap and rotor arm today because the points on the old one were shot and causing it to run a bit lumpy.

Started hand polishing today and paint correction, but now I've decided to just send it to a professional that's just up the road, that way it will be done properly and then I can just maintain the good paintwork afterwards.

my pictures are still upside down on the iPad but fine on the laptop :/

Cleenex tissues? What has that dirty old boy been doing in it? I would get the seats cleaned first lol. Looks pretty clean though. What are the rear arches like and chassis legs etc? Get sum more pics up. As for mods i think you will get more respect if the keep it standard but just clean it up a bit. Are you getting a machine polish. If so how much is it costing?

I don't want to know what he's been doing lol tissues are still in it too haha couple of very small patches on the arches hardly noticeable, everywhere else seems rust free. I'm going to wash and clay bar the car myself and then send it for machine polish, paint correction, and wax. I haven't got a price yet but I'd expect £60-£80? I'd love to keep it totally original but the Temptations are too great! Already watching about 12 things on ebay and already purchased wheels! Haha it won't be spoiled or ruined though :)

Little update
So I have been looking for some wheels for the nova, I want something 'different' and not the usual speedlines or softstars. But as soon as us nova owners start looking for different wheels we always come across the problem of offset! as we know it needs to be around ET49 if we want to get a decent amount of lows without modding the arches ect. So I have been searching the internet and did come across a set, they are very different and im not sure what they will look like yet! some will dislike them, and some may like them.. im still unsure about them lol I am looking to run -100mm+ so bear that in mind.

165-40-16 wouldn't choose them for performance but are fine on the 6 inch diameter rim and 1.2 engine. Only went for them so I can go pretty low with hopefully no rub

I reckon fitting a 10mm spacer that isn't hubcentric is probably going to give you a lot of vibration as you may struggle to mount the wheel centrally.

I like the use of the Renault wheels on the skinny tyres though!

Im hoping I wont need to use the spacers but got them just incase the alloy fouls on the struts, they are ET50

Id imagine they will be fine, softstars are 6j and et49 and dont foul anything. you would get 195 45 16 on there with little or no arch mods (mine was on allessio 2's with std rear arches and rolled fronts)

Bodywork came up brilliant! I quite like the look of the wheels with the stretched tyres

Not much of an update but the nova is now on axle stands with front and rear suspension removed, ready for when my coilovers arrive. Think ill MOT and tax it after that and try and get some use out of it! And my daily C2 vts passed its MOT yesterday with NO advisories :o French cars never pass lol safe to say it was a shock.

havnt had much to do today as im still off work with my broken collar bone so I thought I would have a go at stubby mirrors, Im not keen on the mega small ones, and I wanted to avoid all the filling and shaping of the outer case. So I decided to do it my own way and just remove 1 inch from each mirror, this way I could just trim the inner side of the mirror case and it will still fit. Not finished yet but you get the idea. Nice and subtle

My covers are getting glued on lol just need to sort the glass out first

Glass wise I just cut the plastic backs down on the rounded end, then took the with the mirror glass to a glass/mirrors place and got them to cut the amount off on the eyes closest to the car, then I rounded the corners with sandpaper, you can then tuck them in under the little black overhang lip.

Started playing with the coilovers the other day, and found rust behind the rear nearside shock, so I started picking and eventually ended up with a good size hole. Only way around was to plate it and mig weld it up so thats what I did. Front coilys are on, as well as the 256mm set up with new pads and all bled ready to go.

So the wheels are on and the coilys are LOW, and basically im still unsure about the wheels lol I do like them from certain angles and think they will look amazing rolling. they might look better a slighly darker colour?? Just incase I have purchased some softstars ;)

Love it mate, never seen a Nova on those wheels either. I also have a Flair but its not as clean as yours and doesn't have the side mouldings or stickers no more, guessing there long gone.

Some mods may be required for the inner arch where they can catch (hammer) lol other than that they bolt on

So I have sold the wheels that I had on the nova, and got some 195/40/16 tyres for the softstars. I have to say it feels like I can drive it properly again! the 165/40/16 tyres are terrible, so overall im very happy! really enjoying driving it in the sun :)

Looks nice on the Softstars, one of my fave wheels. Had them on my Corsa, they are a wheel that seems to suit most cars.
They look a little tight on the rear arches, are you getting them rolled?

Cheers, I can fit my finger in the arch gap pretty easy and I haven't had and scraping yet, but would be nice the have them rolled for the extra clearance

It's was a compromise with them wheels because they only looked good when the car was very LOW, and I could only get it low with them tyres without scrubbing, just gave the extra clearance

Stripped the front down today so I could check for rust and fit the Gsi bumper, front panel is in pretty good shape and only one wing has a bit of rust, I've treated it for now and primed it.

So I went to my unit last week to change my top mounts, ended up stripping the front end including the wings so I could underseal, then I thought I might as well take the engine out and do the bay while I was there, it kind of escalated!

So I've now got electric in my unit and I've made a few purchases including a impact gun, new work bench, engine stand, storage boxes.

Let the front end rebuild begin!

I got the quick rack off Colin smith, it was listed on ebay and got it for £117, I can't wait to fit it! Think I'll be fitting the 1.2 back in and then building a fresh engine up for next year.

Small update,

and I've got to say I hate body work, seems to last forever!

I have welded all the patches that needed doing, treated rust and skimmed filler over places that needed it.

Starting to get somewhere now and I'm happy with all the seams after removing all the old seam sealer.

And to finish this update off I have purchased a nice weber 32/34 that's been rebuilt and mated to the 1300 SR manifold, I've already re-jetted it to suit my 1.2 for now. And on the way to me are GSI front and rear anti roll bars and a full set of GSI 3 spokes with centre caps.

Still plodding on with this,
I've got loads of parts at the powder coaters which I'll be picking up soon.
picked up a new master cylinder and powder coated servo as mine was leaking.
Purchased poly bushes for the front end.
built up my steering rack with the quaife kit and new boots, inner tie rods, new track rods and new pinion bearing.
Tidied up the engine and de-greased/painted my gearbox.

It has been a very busy few months with the nova, and I've spent way to much money in that time!

the front end rebuild is 95% complete and I have only got a couple of things to sort.

It's not perfect, but it's fresher and considering I have limited tools and a rocky, dusty unit. It's not bad.

Right, today is a good day, the nova is taxed and on the road!

I took it for tracking this morning and then went for a bit of a blast around the Denbigh moors which you may know as the 'evo triangle', some of the best roads in north wales.

I wanted pin point any issues and the two things I need to adjust are the gear linkage (struggles to get 5th) and a new spring for the choke (not returning to open position).

The car feels completely different to drive now, the handling is spot on even with the big 16's. although very unpowered! still puts a smile on my face though.

So only a few days until PV, and I just about had time to get these wheels powder coated that I got off Scott Parker. They are 15" comp MO's off his old track car. And they were YELLOW!

So I went for a flat grey colour, quite like the more purposeful look of them compared to the softstars.

Crap pictures on my phone but I'll get some better ones on Friday. Centre caps not fitted yet.

A bit of a late update after PV, just got back from France after watching the Le Mans 24hr.

Enjoyed PV, it was nice to get the nova there because the last time I took a nova to PV was about 5 or 6 years ago!

kev dug out some cassettes to listen to on the way which was pretty epic, pete tong from about 97' and various others haha!
