so today i fitted a new speedo cable but its noisey as hell any one know how i can quieten it down? its a firstline one if that helps
Nothing will really quieten it other than use, youre supposed to oil them beforehand but i didnt know this, its the same as the one i have, the top is plastic isnt it, it will quieten through use, so youll just have to fit a louder exhaust, or turn your stereo up more lol
use a very small amount of lubricant, preferrably a dry graphite spray or similar. or you could send it back & get a non noisy one.
For all the bother lubricating it is, give it a go, also it lasts a lot longer.

I bought a new one, took the inner cable wire out and passed it through my original outer and fitted it all back together and problem solved. Give that a try.

you can get these for quietening unwanted car noises they are good for squeeks, rattles, gearbox whine and lifter tick. they are simple to fit and you can pick them up fairly easily.

my speedo cables keep snapping :(
Although they never say they must be lubricated, my experience is they do, some oil feed right through the whole cable and a wee bit of grease at each end (not on the needle bits that sit in the gearbox/speedo obviously).
Also ensure your speedo is turning ok and that the square end is locating properly in the speedo.
Make sure there are no kinks or stretches when fitting.
It seems silly but they can snap really easily, usually at either the gearbox or speedo end if there is any restriction.
Ensure that it's routed correctly to the back of the speedo head.

that was my mistake going from standard clocks to sr ones, i never put the cable on the other side so it kinked the outer and thats what caused it to snap
