View Full Version : Speedlines?
Getting tired of the same old speedline hate lol
Same on Facebook too, folk slagging Novas with speedlines,
So I guess to look at it another way, what's wrong with having a common wheel ?
The Ford boys don't seem to get bored of the same wheel lol

I don't see the problem really. They're a decent wheel, suit the car, and come in the right offset. Yes they're common but hey ho.
Probably find most of the hate is from people who like to fit 13x8" ET20 wheels to Novas. With 175 tyres on lol
amen! I've got 2 sets, 1 polished set *bling* and a painted set I can change colour as and when I feel!
Dare you to flock them !!
aahhhahaha, that would look pretty cool, even if I am dead against this flocking craze! how easy can it be removed?
A refurb should do it, they get blasted or acid dipped anyway,
There was a lad on here done his LET or XE rocker cover and spark plug cover in flock and it looks awesome, and different from the norm :)
how easy can it be removed?

have a set on mine but they rub like a b**ch on the rear. that's with 195/45 but its the original arches so don't want to cut them
very true, might give it a go when I can be bothered, not sure about engine parts though, oil would be a nightmare!
mk999, a little bit of wee came out I laughed so hard lol

Only my N/S/R rubs, I might add very slight camber YOOOO to clear the arch, then fit 135 tyres lol
I like them lots on a mk2, look terrible on a mk1 IMO
Speedlines on a mk2 are like RFX's on a Sport lol look good but done so many times
7J et33 175's here BTW Jack lol

Aye the RS severn spoke is a common wheel, but not common to one model. Thats the difference!
Sorry i guess i started this...
I just really went off them when you see everyone has them. I remember being at a show and 7 Nova's in a row all had them..

Iv had numerous sets of speedlines on quite a few different novas now, when I bought K95 it had they stinkin rfxs on it, they were off straight away for speedlines.
Although I'm a bit bored of them and opted for a set of Porsche D90's for my van

They actually suit that lol
Or it could just be that I don't think I've ever seen them on anything other than Novas or Corsas. Maybe one or two Astas or cavs.
Did someone say mk1's look crap with speedlines, i beg to differ :p

It's not that they look crap at all, i find that due to the skinner bumpers (or more the front) the wheels some times look a bit out of place cause of the size. I found that when trying mine on Sharon SR's Nova a few years ago.
re flocking a set of wheels & then removing it.. the fronts would be self removing, at the very first decent bit of braking lol
re the stretched tyres.... i have an ambition to be walking thru town with 3 accomplices, all of us carrying rubber hammers, and, in unison, whacking the sidewalls of some over lowered shyte-heap and watch the drivers face as it falls to the floor.
Dont forget ^ alot of drift cars have stretch tyres (to a point) to get more tyre on the ground iirc.
Why would flock come of with braking mowgli?
heat transfer thru the rim would hopefully burn the sodding stuff off... when i was a lad, flocking was what they used on plastic toy animals, and bits of train set scenery.. i've never liked it

the 'drift spec' nissan 200sx i followed today had massive stretched tyres on, and enough camber on it for about 50 people's cars... it had rained, we were on the A5 near hinckley & he was trying to drift it badly on the puddles... we could smell the unburnt fuel as we followed him. it was in perfect grey primer, apart from what appeared to be rear corner rub marks.. but they looked like someone had done them with a DA & not a concrete safety barrier
I think things have moved on a touch lol

Had they been ready available or rick still had them then they would have been on it. Probably not in gold though.

My plug cover has been fine for over a year, that gets bloody hot.

That's kinda different tho..lol
Speedlines FTW. Mk1 or 2.
Just wish someone bought the 17" ones lol, they sold the bloody things in 14,15,16 and 17 yet you only ever see 16's :-/

Really?
I thought that was an urban legend and Alessio II's were only 16"?
Only the actual speedline made ones came in different sizes, the others were only made under liecence in the most common size,

I prefer Speedlines over anything you see over here (stretched 13 and 14's with the rolled out arches)...
Mine could be the first LHD silky GSi on Speedlines then??! FTW!

lol, yup,
The actual speedline cast ones ( not the Courtney or wheelbase ones ) are a pain in the ass, gotta run spacers on the front to clear 256 and 288 callipers,

I woud run Speedlines over here and swap them for the OEM GSi wheels when I come over. Seriously, never seen a continental GSi on Speedlines. It would stand out!
They all seem to run the smallest wheel possable over with you, stick 17's on it and get stared at everywhere you go lol

I'll order them right away! Could you bring them over for me please?!
And yes, the Germans started with the small stretched wheels, we lazy Dutch just copy/pasted...

Less sidewall flex, too. Combined with stiffer suspension, ime equals better skids. As the tyres and body roll aren't soaking up all the intertia when you flick the car sideways.

Can't go wrong with a set on cav slabs on a nova, look great and almost as if they came factory with the car. Just colour code the griffin badge to your car.......photo shop it or search under my username and you'll find a red gte with this look.
Alessios are the best wheel for a nova only down side is theiving scum in the uk nicking centre caps, I loved mine on all my cars, only went five stud to be more unique

We're in an era where non conformity is cool.
With the proliferation of shared imagery, those that don't spend exhaustive hours researching / adapting possibilities will be far more likely to get a backlash for doing something commonplace.
If I had to guess why the Ford boys don't get it as much, it's possibly down to fact some of the wheels handed up to the older generation are larger and of a better design.
