Air vent direction on mk2 dash

The dial to direct the airflow for windscreen, face or floor is just turning. Don't think it's connected to the cable that adjusts the flap?

How do you access this cable to point the air to the windscreen?

To get to the top of the cables, remove the dash cowling centre vent section, and remove the air ducting. You should be able to see/reach the back of the controls, the cable sheaths clip into the back of the control and have a wire with a round hook end that clips onto the back of the rotary knob.

I can't remember off the top of my head exactly where the bottom end of the cables go, I know one is in the passenger footwell, on the side of the heater. Can't remember if thats the heat or direction control though.

You may find the clips on the cable sheath have snapped, they're quite fragile. If there's no resistance at all, the wire might have come off at one end or the rotary knob may be knackered.
