steering faults

Fitted a new set of alloys on my Mk1 nova the other day, theyre 175 up from 145's and r14 instead of r13 so shouldnt make too much difference to the turning circle or weight of the steering but i found that when i drove around the steering was quite sporadic, being light at times and heavy at others for no reason, it also sometimes jolts 1/6 to each side on occasion, any ideas ? is it the tracking ?

Sounds like the tracking,

I know my tracking is out on mine and it loves going round left hand corners as the steering goes light but feels a drag on right handed corners,

tracking is out. you won't notice much on 145 tyres, but 175s will show it straight away
