View Full Version : Permanently reshaping rubber hose
Is there a way?
I have some breathers to replace on the car, can't get them new, can barely get them second hand, and if you find them they're a fortune or a mess.
I have some suitable tubing of the right diameter, but need it to follow a pre-formed state, or it won't fit.
Any suggestions? I was thinking something like earth wire inserted down the middle, bend to shape, then return in about a decade.
Anything quicker?

What about silicone hoses
Thin strips of metal bent to the shape of the bend you want on the outside then electrical tape over the top to tidy it up, will keep it's form and not look too shabby.

Cheers lads. May try the tape idea. See how it looks.
I want to keep the car standard, Brian.

you can get the ones with a matt fabric wrap so it looks old skool aswell. i know roose do them
Sounds like there's options then. It's not for a Nova, or even a Vaux though.
This isn't the only place I have asked btw.
Cheers again.
You can get metal sleeves that slide over rubber hose to bend them quite tightly and retain their shape without it kinking. Remember seeing some on eBay.
Heating it bending it in to shape and then cooling repeatedly should also work, how it's normally done for watercooled PC's with tight bends.
Not sure how it would cope with engine heat but it should be fine, when I've done it for PC's it didn't bend back instantly when it was heated again.
