Looking for some advice

I have an Arcan 2 tonne aluminium trolley jack, one of those from Costco. Couple of years old now.

At the bottom of the handle there's two pistons of differing thicknesses, the smaller of the two stuck 'down' and it refused to lift any weight. I have tapped it and it popped back 'up' however it's looking quite oily there so I imagine a seal has gone.

How do I go about fixing this?

Pic of the part that has broken, the smaller of the two:

Take it back to costco, they will give you the cash back and you can go in and buy a new one.

or buy a new one and put the old one back in the box and return it :p

Think I got it 2011 at some point, I'll check the warranty info!

It's looking pretty used so I don't think the replace-in-box trick would work lol

/\ you'd be supprised at how many people dont check the returned goods,

Some one i work with just done this with an 18v drill, and im telling you now his was battered but put it back in the box and now has a brand spanker FOC lol

Most stuff at Costco has a 5 year warranty. They accept anything back and never check or question it.

If you can get the seal out the a hose and hydraulic place should be able to match it

When a jack fails in anyway I ditch the bitch as I don't want it dropping as I'm positioning an axle stand

You wanna see mine lol. It's about 7 years old.

Loads of bits have fell off or broken, now.

Thought you had one of those **** Clarke things with a front roller.

Glad to see you saw the light. :)

Hi Iain,
Don't know if you've got this sorted out. If not, let me know and I can advise how to take it apart and what kind of seal you may need.

This. Just take it back. As said, they appear to have a no quibble policy. Use it!

Or you could buy a new one, swap the ram over and even if the do open it they will never know. I done this with lidle jacks for a few years till i slammed my car and it wouldnt go under it so i got a blue point low level jack for £119

Mine lives outside and is as rusty as hell, still works like a charm though

Still had mine, and an identical few month old Cosco sourced jack in action on an early bay VW on Sunday.

It's just not as tight as it once was.

Whats with all the fraud ideas when they appear to actually honour a warranty ffs??
