no you don't and it filters fuel vapours in the tank

It needs to be plugged in ^ but doesn't need to be pipped up.

Well in a Cav you have a pipe from the tank that vents out air/gas. And a carbon canister to vent in too.. Nova's dont have them, so no advantage at all. Wouldn't help with running or power or anything. It's a eco thing.
