I took ownership of this little gem today :-)
http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c97/pulsar_stu/48195588-1EDB-4CCA-9507-93EACC13BB6B-728-0000006C1CCBFBFB_zps2a3e33cd.jpg
Needs a lot of tlc but its solid! No rot :-)
It's missing the engine :-(
So I'm not sure what route to go down.
Source a 1.3sr engine which are like rocking horse ****e!
Or c20xe it.
I'm gonna sort the body out first and respray it and then decide.
Happy as a pig in ****e right now :-)
looks a good start better then my rotter lol
Just scrap it mate and mine will go up in value lol. No seriously fit a 1.3, make it mint and standard. Is the interior mint? The picture you have posted looks miles better than what the seller posted. Close up pics will tell the full story. All the best with the rebuild :thumb:
1.3 turbo like me lol
looks good but more pics are needed
Pulsar_stu

I will upload more pics when I get back home in an hour or so.
Interior is very clean :-)
The body is straight with only a few marks :-)
Pics will be up soon :-)

12-04-13, 06:24 PM
Thanks guys.
Yeah Mark I only washed it down with soapy water mate, just to see what the paint was like... It's better than I thought!
Gonna clay bar it and then decide what needs painting.
I might keep it honest yet lol
Not sure what I want at the moment lol
Good to meet you! How's that bed? Lol

12-04-13, 06:32 PM
Looks like it has the potential to be a super example!
I say 1.3 engine and standard - you will never lose money if you go down that route!!
Pulsar_stu
12-04-13, 07:04 PM
Yeah I'm swaying more towards standard. The interior is just full of dust,,, bolsters look perfect don't they :-p
I will be cleaning it up over the next few weeks and buying things.
I will keep this thread updated :-)

What is the paint code on the VIN plate situated on the slam panel?
Pulsar_stu

I will have a look at the paint code later.
Anyone ever seen or used these locks?

Yes ultra retro!
Invented in the days Novas were hot property for car theives!
Pulsar_stu
13-04-13, 10:23 AM
They work a treat!
I thought they had prob been put on because of the high theft rate of nova's back in the day.
When I first saw them I thought someone had cut up a safe box or something lol
I'm going to keep them :-)
Looks like a good buy there bit of hard work and it will be fine.
Im sure helios and haze blue are the same shade.
Pulsar_stu
13-04-13, 11:36 AM
Thanks.
I have just been outside looking at it and the underside of the car is very clean :-)
Hopefully I can find some original wings in the same colour to save having to get the red ones painted.
Then I will pay attention to the smaller parts and sorting an engine and wheels out before I decide on a full respray or not.

I spent a few hours scraping paint off the engine bay earlier.
Luckily the person that painted the engine bay etc didn't key the surface, they just painted straight over the wax oil and gunk so it's pealing off...
I'm uncovering surface rust but that's about it :)
When the black paint is off I'm going to rub it all down and re paint it all haze blue.
Here's a few pics from today.

Spent a couple more hours on the nova today :)
I got some more paint off the engine bay.
The turned my attention to the front arb, arms and hubs.
I only managed to get one side totally stripped :)
I had to go indoors and remove tiles off the bathroom wall so the mrs thinks I've been doing work in the house lol
http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c97/pulsar_stu/BEF400D8-7614-45BE-8B6B-E0385F18E6F0-634-000000829F381A27_zps9843a637.jpg
I have managed to source my rims as well :) only got 1 atm, gotta pick the others up and the centre caps :)

They will be stripped and powder coated :)
I was thinking of painting over the underseal on arches with haze blue. What's everyone's thoughts?
I'm having a new front panel welded on as the one that's on looks like it was replaced at some point but only the top half and the bottom half has issues!
gary_126
05-05-13, 12:48 PM
Nice project! painted arches look great, you will have to make sure the black paint isnt bitumen based, as the thinners in paint will soften it and create one big mess. Removing its probably the best option (time consuming and messy)
Pulsar_stu
05-05-13, 02:26 PM
Thanks for the tip, I will test patch the arches to see if it reacts...
I have had to scrape/chip the paint off the engine bay so doing it to the arches wouldn't be an issue!
Might be a good idea to incase of any surface rust it might be hiding.
I'm in no rush to finish it, so will prob strip it off and paint it haze blue same as the car :)
Pulsar_stu
11-05-13, 01:16 PM
Just ordered my vinyl for the bottom of the car :-)
How hard is it to remove the old stuff?
Do I use a heat gun or hair dryer? Or will it just peal off?
I'm having the whole car painted in the next couple of months :)
I'm still searching for some roof gutter trim :( seen someone selling some for £100 but think that's a bit over priced?
maddogdaz666
11-05-13, 02:01 PM
£100 Is a tad overpriced! I need a pair for the mrs mk2 SR too but she can do without for that price!
Pulsar_stu
11-05-13, 02:07 PM
Yeah my thoughts exactly, I was thinking £25 for some but I guess that won't be happening lol

I've seen a few sets before advertised at around £40 but I still think that's too much.

I've asked a friend over France to search for some off the Opel corsa a :)
Hopefully he can find a cheap set lol
At a push I would pay £40 delivered!

Little update :)
I've been looking for a 1.3sr engine close to me so I didn't have to travel all day to get one.
I didn't think I was ever going to find one less than 200 miles away :(
Then I was told about a mk1 in a scrapyard by me, but was told it was a 1.2.
So I decided to leave it and keep looking.
Then the scrap yard listed the car on eBay as a 1.3sr.
So I got intouch and they said it was indeed a 1.3sr but only the bottom end of the engine was left.
I offered a cheaky £30 for it and they said yes :)
So earlier on today I went and picked it up :)
13sb is the sr engine isn't is?
http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c97/pulsar_stu/1D7A1534-5B6B-4369-A9D5-AAB3C787A809-563-000000578C649B92_zpsd9f1f7d4.jpg
Looks pretty clean and turns over freely :)
http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c97/pulsar_stu/37D22875-8C08-4473-9AA0-9B643628BF4D-563-0000005780F193FF_zps0a2f0962.jpg
I'm going to clean it, strip it down and then paint it before it gets installed.
Oh and get a head and fit that lol
I have re painted the engine bay black again. I wasn't happy with the haze blue that I painted or should I say the prep I did wasn't great so it showed thru the top coat :( £30 of paint wasted!
So I flatted it back and used some black that I had lying about.
Pics to follow :)

Heads are easy to find as well which makes life easier for you to complete it.
There is little difference between 1.2 and 1.3 heads if you get stuck.

Lovely car, and so pleased your going down the original route, the 2e3 carb is ok if it's all working correct so it should still be lively although it's only a 1.3.
Personally I thought the Blue engiine bay looked good, even if the finish isn't perfect, better than black? Besides, the finish in the engine bay isn't usually perfect anyway lol.
Pulsar_stu
02-06-13, 08:29 PM
I hadn't rubbed it down enough and it looked an eye sore :( every time I opened the bonnet it smacked me in the face so I had to rub it down! When I re spray the car the engine bay might get a blow over aswell.
The black does look loads better than the blue did lol even though I too preferred the blue.
Glad yo like it so far :)
It's slowly getting there :)

First time I've worked properly on a nova for 20 years lol
Thanks for the engine mounts and things.
I couldn't of fit it tonight if you hadn't brought them over :)
Hope the block serves you aswel :)
never seen a mk1 sr in that colour, really grows on me when you put more pictures up, great work so for
Pulsar_stu
06-08-13, 03:38 PM
Thanks mate.
I hear its a rare colour? This is the first one I have ever seen. My mate had a darker blue one 20 years ago.
I popped to the local exhaust place today and bought a complete exhaust from down pipe back with all fittings... £61 :) that included the inlet and outlet manifold gaskets :)
I have just finished linking the gearbox up and bolting all the running gear back up :)

Almost there, manifolds are only mocked up. Waiting for gaskets to come so I can fit them properly.
There's a few pipes I'm unsure of where they go but I will ask later when I take pics...

After spending just over £600 I'm very close to having the sr finished for its mot.
I have had to put later calipers and vented disks on because the calipers were seized.
I have ordered a new master cylinder because I still have no brakes :(
I just need to fit a rad fan and vacume pipe and swap windscreen once the brakes are done and then it will be on the road!
Then it will need a respray...
Here's how it looks at the moment.
http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c97/pulsar_stu/B4126BD6-05D4-4460-A96D-E97B2DA481B0-533-0000009EAAAF4628_zps23bbba99.jpg

Its always the way. At least its an SR in a good colour so you can sell on for good money when the time comes.
Did you get the engine sorted?
Pulsar_stu
19-08-13, 07:04 PM
Yes the engine is rebuilt now and sounds ace :) thanks for asking :)
True it is a good colour, not my first choice but its a rarer colour so can only be a good thing in the end :)

Glad you got it sorted, is it on the road now? Good to be back behind the wheel?
Pulsar_stu
19-08-13, 09:04 PM
Hi Rich.
No mate its not on the road just yet.
I had to rebuild the bottom end mate because it was knocking :(
Plus-
I have been stuck scratching my head with the breaks mate.
Bleed them about 6 times. Then was told to check front calipers weren't seized. They were so I got another setup and bleed them to find I still have no breaks :(
So I have ordered a new master cylinder to see if that's the problem.
Hopefully be here tomorrow.
I haven't driven it but I have sat behind the wheel and there isn't much room for me haha I need to loose weight I think lol
I'm itching to drive it! Hopefully it will be as good as I remember it being over 20 years ago lol
kent14sr
19-08-13, 09:17 PM
You definitely have the calipers on the right side? ie bleed nipple at top?
Pulsar_stu
19-08-13, 10:08 PM
Yes mate, my mate asked the same question.
And I'm force bleeding the system with a compressed air device.
Novasport
19-08-13, 10:28 PM
